Telefon T. Aviv+Redhead+Ciani+Korallreven

Posted by Jakub

It doesn’t get much better than this from Telefon Tel Aviv, featured on the new DJ-Kicks that was compiled by Apparat, moody darkness with a hefty scoop of tender details that release perfectly.

One of the reasons why I don’t truly review music on the blog is because I don’t like to share music that I don’t like, also sometimes albums fall in the lap of the wrong reviewer, I think thats what happened when Pitchfork gave this album a bad review, it happens but this new album by Blonde Redhead is far from bad. I think its written perfectly for a band that has been together this long, I can go on for lengths of why it should be received better but instead you can judge it yourself, I can’t see anyone else writing music like this any better.

Enjoy some true synth magic by Suzanne Ciani, probably made before any of us were even born.

I support the Swedes on all levels, probably at the top of that list is NHL star Peter Forsberg as my favorite Swede then the groups Studio and The Radio Dept. Korallreven is inching into my top 5 though, now we just need an album.

Braids+Weekend+Secret Mountains+Miracle

I have a good feeling about Braids, a very good feeling that this band will do great things, they have a sound that is easy to fall in love with. A little bird tipped on them last night and i’m glad they did, sounds promising. I love how the singer sings in a way that makes me to follow her lyrics but I think I hear some potty mouth parts in there, I could be wrong.

After listening to this Weekend song I almost thought it was too far into the cold season to post but hey why not I don’t post enough straight rock on the blog and this one is a good one compared to plenty of what is out there that has this feel.

This Secret Mountains tracks takes many different shapes for only being less than 7 minutes, it calms nicely like something Blonde Redhead would have done years ago then swells into psychedelia, i’ll keep them on the radar and maybe pick up their cassette LP when it drops.

I had to break up the small rock playlist with a Tangerine Dream-ish effort by Miracle, this track goes on a beautiful journey yet I wish the spastic percussion at the end had more depth in the sound.

Numan+StellarOmSource+Innergaze+Forma

I guess today’s post is all about just synth soundscapes which features some new faces that I saw live recently and a legend that I missed, I could have kept going but these 4 felt right.

I heard Gary Numan played in New York last month and it didn’t sell out *sigh*

I’m really looking forward to this Stellar Om Source LP thats coming out next week, she definitely adds a finesse touch to the synth scene that seems to be growing day after day.

Innergaze has this vibe thats unexplainable, I’ve been picturing a pastel colored set on a public access channel and its 1983 or 1991 either or and on that set its just girls with big hair in teal exercise outfits acting unhappy playing with gems, don’t take that idea i’m going to use it for a video.

Forma didn’t have any merch at their show so I had to dig up a WAV off their soundcloud, really nice lushy repetition.

Future Islands+Selebrities+Deastro+Pogo

I’ve had this synth line from Future Islands in my head since I woke up, does it remind you of Arcade Fire at all, the overall sound of this song?

What does disco/synth pop do in the winter? well it doesn’t hibernate, I think this style of those genres is perfect all year around, hope to hear more from Selebrities.

Deastro is a pure ball of energy that might be untouchable at times, this song should be towering over pop for all the kids in the new youthful generations, way more interesting than Owl City, Harry Potter soundtracks, WIll Smith’s daughters new single or whatever kids listen to these days.

Nothing will ever beat Pogo’s track Alice in my mind, here is his new efforts, too much nostalgia going on here, makes me feel all mushy inside.

Full Stream: Shigeto’s Full Circle Album

Since i’ve known Zach Saginaw aka Shigeto and saw him play live I had a feeling early on he was one of those guys that was going to give beat producers a run for their money, the man is a performer and can drum with more dynamics than any other producer I know. You can listen to songs like Look At All The Smiling Faces and get the understanding that this isn’t someone thats looking to just produce beats for fun, the man wants to do this as a living because he cares about the sound and was born to take this sound to the next level and not only on a album but more importantly on stage.

If you’re a vinyl head then this is your piece, the vinyl comes with a art sleeve by Mike Cina and the CD slid in there too, you can pick it up at The Ghostly Store.

Below is a quick run thru of the whole LP, just a few seconds of each song that was done by Alex Koplin aka H34dUp and who comments on the blog regularly.

Madlib + Paperclip P. + Diskjokke + Grouper

An oldie but a goodie, Madlib manhandles music from India into the heavy beat that I love in hip hop these days.

I had a good weekend night at Bunker in Brooklyn this past Friday, some great Detroit DJs showed up and that opened a tiny door back up in my heart for few techno classics to jump back into my life.

Some smooth workings by Diskjokke, let this ride out, it unfolds nicely.

Took a hour long car ride with Benoit Pioulard listening to this Grouper LP Cover the Windows and the Walls, this song couldn’t be written any better.

Loscil + Small Black + Houses + Destroyer

If you have followed the blog from the beginning you may know I post Loscil on a consistent basis. Yesterday he posted a small EP via his bandcamp that included this gem called Gallium. I can only describe the sound as the feeling you get when you start swinging on a swing set but in slow motion and instead of a playground imagine yourself in a cave.

I am ADDICTED to this beginning song by Small Black, the intro melody gives me goosebumps, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ALBUM PURCHASE.

Many of the chillwave artists such as Houses are spinning out of the very enjoyable yet highly bashed genre. There are some interesting and beautiful pieces of lo-fi work as a result. One thing I realized after hearing this song, i’m a sucker for woodblocks with echo.

Its new Tim Hecker with Destroyer on vocals. The reaction I have after listening is that I wish there was more music like this, its a well crafted idea that could go horribly bad but these 2 talents make it work.

Nerd Boyfriend Dot Com

Every guy has their way of shopping, some do a quick grab and go without trying anything on from J Crew, some shop only on the internet, and some just let their girlfriend or mom do it all for them. I personally like clothing shopping, I use to be a buyer for a few vintage shops and do plenty of looking around in shops every week. I came across NerdBoyfriend awhile back and I keep coming back, the name is a bit misleading but the whole idea of finding old photos of people that we love like Martin Short or Chevy Chase and helping you put together that outfit by linking to clothes that look like whats in the picture is a pretty clever idea for a site in my opinion.
