ISO50 Premiere: USF Album Stream

Posted by Jakub

CER021-1500x300

I needed something light and fresh for the weekend and Ceremony allowed us to premiere this USF release. It has its moments of that speedy digital chopped up sound that makes you feel like your scrolling through a teenagers tumblr, but what separates them from the rest of the pack is the thoughtful softness chosen to form the melodic side of this record.

SUPPORT: Digital via Bandcamp

USF (formerly Universal Studios Florida) is an ongoing collaboration between longtime friends and Seattle natives Jason Baxter and Kyle Hargus. Since their inception in 2008, USF has recorded and released over five hours-worth of hypnotic, genre-bent music, including three EPs, the seminal debut full-length Ocean Sunbirds, a record inspired by the writing of Jonathan Lethem (2011’s The Spray), and a myriad of remixes for an eclectic mix of artists.

SIMISM is their most adventurous release to date and the duo’s first for Ceremony: a pulsing, club-worthy collection of tracks that departs from their established, diaphanous sound towards something more immediate and direct. Songs like “Sibilant,” “Free ‘Til Midnight,” and “Outtamind” (which features soulful guest vocals from Fatha Green) reach for euphoric new highs and refute the increasingly impersonal, rapidly-digitizing world around us. Ultimately yearning for intimacy from the lonely heart of the concrete jungle.

Stream: Com Truise Wave 1

The new Com Truise EP “Wave 1” is out today, stream it above.

Wave 1 is the first new transmission the world has received from producer Seth Haley since his gloriously futuristic debut album Galactic Melt. That album cataloged the genesis and evolution of Haley’s alter ego Com Truise — the world’s first synthetic/robotic astronaut, as Haley described him — and this EP continues the character’s journey into the outer reaches of the musical multiverse. In the process, it also builds on Haley’s signature production style, one that’s rooted in classic sci-fi sounds and analogue textures but nevertheless manages to sound utterly contemporary.

YouthLagoon+Bullion+Yalls+BeachFossils

Youth Lagoon just announced dates with The National, i’ve been anticipating what his next sound would be like most people, maybe he’d be influenced by the Fat Possum catalog? nope, he comes back to us with sheer beauty.

I missed this gem last year from Bullion, wow… what a gorgeous new direction, he keeps showing us he’s song writing talent, its fusion of sound that could live in almost every decade since the 70’s.

Yalls just posted 6 remixes on his Soundcloud including this fluttery early Caribou like one for Blackbird Blackbird.

Beach Fossils are back and cut out the surf influence completely. The sound has upped the quality and have been striped down just catchy good music without any gimmick, looking forward to the album.

Tycho LA + SD + SF Shows in January

Posted by Scott

UPDATE: Added another LA show and a show in Santa Ana.

We’re going to take a break from recording the next Tycho album to play a special run of shows on the west coast next month including two nights right here in San Francisco. Really excited to end off this past year of shows back home. We’ll be sharing some new songs and visuals and a few other surprises. See you soon!

The first 100 people to buy tickets for each show will receive this limited edition poster, so be sure to get your tickets soon as they’ll be gone fast.

Also really excited to announce that some good friends will be supporting for these shows. First up, Christopher Willits will be opening the Jan 18th date at the Independent in San Francisco where he will be debuting some new video work. All of the other dates will feature DOOMbird as opener, who just released an excellent EP.

Fairmont+Maribou+Kuhrye-oo+Dorado

Fairmont has been on my radar since he released on Traum in the early 2000’s, back then he did softer melodic techno, now he’s a lot more lively but rides that synth pop line that has a somber a side.

Maribou State follows suit of past year trends left behind by Teen Daze and Blackbird Blackbird, still a good formula but its starting to loose its luster.

I was able to catch a portion of Kuhrye-oo set a few nights ago, he can pack in unexpected emotional punch while showing off a different take on his sounds genre.

Ride out the weekend with a 12+ minute jam from Dany Dorado.

If you’re in NY I DJ tomorrow with good friends Lauren Flax and Nick Hook while we open for Nicolas Jaar at Music Hall Of Williamsburg for Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival.

Liveries: John Player Special

Posted by Rory

Here we are, probably my favorite livery from the heyday of Formula 1: John Player Special. As Lotus’s title sponsor for much of the 70’s and 80’s, these beautiful black and gold machines spent alot of time in the winners circle. Emerson Fittipaldi, Jochen Rindt, Mario Andretti, and Ayrton Senna, to name a few, all drove JPS sponsored Lotus machines.

JPS was also active in touring cars and motorcycle racing, the black & gold scheme so iconic that many manufacturer’s road-going variants usually had a complimentary paint option – albiet without the lucrative cigarette advertisements.

The colors have proved so nostalgic that Lotus has donned them once again (without any association to the extinct cigarette brand) in their Formula 1 and Le Mans prototype cars, and I must say that it’s a hero’s return for most.

What I’m really looking forward to is checking out the Historic GP at this year’s inaugural F1 race in Austin, a little birdie told me that Mario’s old Lotus 79 will be buzzing around the new track.
