AllienApparat+Geist+WagonChrist+Bonobo

Posted by Jakub

I have a couple of staple electronic acts to share with you today. Apparat’s collaboration with Ellen Allien which during its release was the pinnacle of that epic synth techno trying to be pop which others like Josh Holden, Superpitcher, and Nathan Fake also made a name for themselves.

Morgan Geist who you might know from working with Junior Boys and Metro Area puts together dreamy synth melody that I want to hear Erlend Oye sing over.

You probably remember this Luke Vibert project called Wagon Christ, it was the most catchy thing you’ll hear from Luke Vibert that was accepted by the mainstream, I remember going to lounges and hearing it everywhere I went.

NEW BONOBO! just came out in December, I thought this track was a real stand out on his new EP Blur, it has this Four Tet meets Zero 7 feel, he is really sticking to his guns on his sound, I admire that.

the Bonobo EP is supposedly a bootleg. I can’t find any information on its release… all that I can find is that people are saying it’s by an impostor using Bonobo’s name. the production sounds a bit off, so I’m getting suspicious.

any thoughts?

what is that lush string sample in the wagonchrist tune?
fenn o’berg used it in their ‘fennoberg theme’ too…

i used to be quite a vibert man back in the mid-late 90’s. it’s funny, i listened to plug and throbbing pouch a couple of years ago, and it’s amazing how snoozingly repetitive his old stuff is. maybe it’s just me. this tune is pretty nice though

@Iain – Ninja Tune have the new Bonobo EP for pre-release… so it’s definitely happening… whether or not that’s what you’re hearing is another thing altogether… Remember, leaks are sometimes pre-mastering…

@Iain – It does sound a bit clean (especially the drums, the snare could use a little more thickness). And where is his (usually great) bassline?! It sure has the Bonobo feel all over it though.

‘The Keeper’ is really great! He made an ‘album version’, so I guess there’s an album comming .. (Be sure to check out the Redeyes remix by the way). He should stick to his sound, it’s a great sound!
