Head over to Gorilla vs. Bear to download a recent mix, Scott and I thought the cover art was as amazing as the music.

Hey it’s live clips of new Panda Bear songs that might be on his new record, everybody flip out! the man can do anything and we’d love it, i’m actually really enjoying this song but usually I enjoy his voice more than I do here.

I realized Dam-Funk makes music that feels like a relaxing night on the west coast, I don’t think the midwest or Canada could really fully love this sound without referencing 2-Pac somehow to enjoy it as much as someone from Oakland or LA.

Here’s a new song that was posted exclusively on De:Bug Magazine’s site done by Love-Step duo Praveen and Machinedrum aka Sepalcure, I love this song and I love these guys, I want them to blow up bigger than any [fill in the blank]step producers. Nice work guys! If you want to hear more from them, check out this focused post I did a few months ago.

Something slammin’ from James Pants, wasn’t expecting this but i’m definitely not bummed in the least bit, pure summer fire for the heads.

The heart of 2009’s year in the music scene has to go to the very passionate Dâm Funk, the man has stuck with west coast funk & boogie thru many years. I got to see him play last night and as he entertained I could tell he was born to do this and nothing else. I even asked for his autograph that’s how amazed I was by his presence and I even met Aziz Ansari[which I thought would of been the biggest and best thing 2 years ago] and saw Josh Hartnett[who I had no idea who he was until someone explained his career to me] the same night and didn’t ask anything from them.

A good amount of people that haven’t heard of him compared it to 2Pac but no matter what its compared to no one is going to play keytar 4 feet from your face and high five the crowd and ask them if they’re having a good night every 10 minutes. His LP Toeachizown is out now

Dam Funk on Stones Throw
We have more from Dam Funk, I just find it perfect for the summer sun. Look for his Toeachizown album on Stones Throw Records, it’ll be hard to miss since its 5xLP’s!

Posted the original of this Runaway single awhile back, definitely feeling this Brennan Green remix though, if you’re ever in Manhattan you should check out his night in Chinatown.

Michna is back from months of touring and turned out new digital EP which includes remixes from Star Eyes, Osborne, and Eliot Lipp. The Osborne grabbed me, also kind of loving the art on the egg.

I’m sure most of you have heard this Stranglers song when you watched Snatch with Brad Pitt, it came up randomly on iTunes shuffle and put me in a great mood especially the last 30 seconds of vocals.

The Egyptian Lover - The Alezby Inn
Loving this Egyptian Lover track, reminds me a bit of Twin Peaks at times.

Everyone has their favorite MJ song, this was mine, loved the crowd noise when I was a kid, makes me think about seeing video of Europeans looking at Michael Jackson perform live on stage and freaking out and getting dragged away crying because they loved him so much, to be honest when MJ passed I was thinking that Europe would flip out 10x more than the US and it probably did.

Sam posted some Drexciya a few weeks back, really minimalistic speedy synthy dark electro, perfect for a night speedboat rides.

For this Dam Funk track you really need to let it get half way through, Think Sonic the Hedgehog meets 2Pac if you aren’t into it so it at least puts a smile on your face, for the recent of you enjoy the heat this curious talent is giving off.

So the BBC Radio seems to be the best known radio station in the world for exclusively having songs and being able to play them first and its no different in this case. Domino Recordings handed them a great remix of Animal Collective’s Summertime Clothes which included this Dam Funk remix that pretty much nails the remix if you love synths and funk at a uptempo pace, the remix has such a natural feel to it, it’s so unforced seems like it should be an original.

You may have already heard about the Animal Crack Box and how its only limited to 1000 pressed and how some someone already dropped 2,400USD+ on a copy on ebay. I have been listening to it, its pretty good, i’d maybe pay 40USD tops for a copy of the vinyls at most just for the collection aspect of it. This release just makes me think how much of a crackhead my parent’s thought I must of was collecting hockey cards and having to wake up on the weekends to drive me to the card shows so I could look at the 1000USD limited hockey cards that 45 year old men sold with their stained sweatpants and too small of New York Rangers matching sweatshirts and their bellies partially showing while I spent my allowance on mystery packets of a random collection on pieces of paper that i’d just organize and store later in the evening. I hope they didn’t think I was going to turn into one of those guys but i’m sure it crossed their mind more than once. ok. back to music.

Terrence Dixon, someone once called him the Aphex Twin of Detroit Techno, he is a minimalist not that minimal techno stuff but a true minimalist and a care taker of melody. If you sit and listen and hear what he repeats its pure gold, the magic really lies in the subtle panning of certain parts of the song and well placed additions that pop up perfectly, A must have in your collection if you like to just space out into your design work while the song is chopping away at the waves like your cruising in 1st place in a sailboat race.

So I just found about this Pink Floyd band, just kidding.

Stones Throw Podcast Feat. Dam Funk

Dam Funk
I feel like we need a good dose of funk and soul sometimes on this blog and Monday couldn’t be a better day for it. This weekend I went to see the Stones Throw Label Showcase at Le Poisson Rouge featuring Dam Funk and James Pants, the crowd was pretty good given the fact they played the Natural History Museum the night before. Dam Funk really stuck out for me as a DJ, he kept the crowd in it by singing over every track and his personality was something you could never hate, he only wanted everyone to have a good time. Eliot Lipp – Live from the Beat Bunker

Eliot Lipp - Live At The Beat Bunker
Eliot Lipp’s 2009 has been one of the more productive one’s out there, having released his new album Peace Love Weed 3D and organizing a 40+ date tour you wouldn’t think he’d have the time to head into the studio to record a live studio session. The mix features some of the more talked about names in Electronic/Hip Hop right now like Mux Mool, Nosaj Thing, Black Milk, and Michna. Some of the highlights in my opinion are Beamrider which is a live set favorite of mine and the ever so popular recent Warp track Overnight.
