ToroYMoi+JanelleMonae+TeenDaze+Allien

Posted by Jakub

Toro Y Moi has a new 7 inch coming out on Carpark Records, he went with a new recording style which included leaving all the electronics out, definitely on a 50’s pop tip, i’m interested in hearing the rest of it.

I saw Janelle Monae on David Letterman the other night, she blew me away and usually I don’t care for lyricists, anyone have any thoughts on her? I think she’s the prettiest top 40 artist i’ve seen in awhile with great taste. I’m not a Outkast fan so the Big Boi guest spot doesn’t do anything for me, it’s disappointing that that’s the way major labels have to break new artists.

This Teen Daze song should just be the Toro Y Moi song, am I right?

Oh Ellen Allien, I want to love you but what are you doing? guitars? really? just do what you do and if you experiment maybe pick a new moniker because if you grab a guitar then your in a whole new world of good guitar music coming out and this just doesn’t seem to hold up next to them.

Forget how pretty Janelle is, she’s an amazing performer and musician. If you ever see her perform live, it’s quite the experience.

Janelle Monae isn’t a new artist. She’s been associated with Outkast since 2003 and they never had any other guest appearences her songs.
Outkast helped jumped start her career. It’s a shame she’s Bad Boy Artist now. Janelle style is just so fresh and new. I couldn’t stop listening to ‘The Chase Suite.’

I am also in stage where I don’t care to much for lyricist. Well unless it’s a dope MC on the beat. But I do still appreciate creative and fresh lyrics.

Your not Outkast fan. Jakub you need to start at 94′ and work you way up to the present and listen to songs that weren’t just mainstream (HeyYa). So upsetting. haha

Janelle Monae is a breath of fresh air. Her association with Bad Boy has in no way stifled her creativity…Sean Combs only interest is exposure and distribution – he’ll make loads of money if he does it right.

Her album, The ArchAndroid channels influences of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill and many others. It’s a genre-bending experience done WELL…one of the soulful songs even resolves into Clair De Lune. Her vocal ability is astounding, as is her writing and performance.

Plus, as you mentioned…she’s a looker…Elvis hairdo and all :)

I saw Janelle Monae in Seattle when she opened for Jamie Lidell. She was totally amazing and yeah, totally gorgeous. She made eye contact with me and I just about swooned.

Yeah me too, saw Janelle open for Jaime Lidell and was stunned. So amazing. I’ve got the new record and am warming up to it. Nothing as good as “Violet Stars Happy Hunting!” so far.

Hmm, not sure what I feel about the new Toro y Moi…I’ve been obsessing over him and this sounds so different from what I was loving most about him. But like you said, interested in hearing the rest too. I’m sure whatever he puts out will be great. Totally agree with you that the Teen Daze song should be the Toro one! ha! I’d never heard of them, so I’ll be checking the rest of their stuff out. Thanks!

I feel like the Bad Boy street team showed up in the comments, however
it’s true about Big Boi/Outkast. You gotta take it back and get hip Jakub.

Also, you say it’s a shame how major labels break new artists in yet the point you’re making is that she’s a pretty woman with good taste, so omg? Come on mayne.

I see me orders for more ambient music has been disregarded. I will hold a grudge forever. Now what am I supposed to listen to at work? All I have on my iPhone is a double album of traditional jews harp playing.

Teen Daze did a remix of Twin Sister ‘All Around and Away We Go’ thats worth finding. The new Toro Y Moi stuff can be heard during their tour. I saw them on Wednesday and also in March, and the two shows couldn’t be more different. The new stuff is great. Not like his old stuff to be sure. One track is a dead ringer for ‘Love Come Down’ by Evelyn Champagne King. In fact I though it was a cover at first.
