Tycho Live Photos + Portland + Seattle

It’s always have a blast shooting Tycho. This time around I (Shelby) shot the guys playing in Portland at the Crown Room and in Seattle at Bumbershoot. Instead of shooting mostly digital, I shot with my Yashica T4 exclusively. Something about about the very raw film and lack of manual exposure control on the camera really makes me never want to put it down. Also since it’s pocket-sized, I’m able to carry it around all the time.

Westvaco Inspirations

Posted by Jon

These fantastic spreads were designed by Bradbury Thompson for Westvaco Inspirations in the 1950s and early 60s.

Westvaco Inspirations was a graphic arts publication issued by the Westvaco Corporation, formerly named the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, with the objective of showing typography, photography, art work and other graphic inventiveness on papers manufactured at its mills. Because Westvaco Inspirations was intended to demonstrate printing processes and papers, its primary audience consisted of 35,000 designers, printers, teachers and students.

Thompson designed more than sixty issues of the magazine over eighteen years and utilized a variety of printing methods, including letterpress and offset lithography. Tons more great scans at Typogabor.

ISO50: Developer Wanted

Posted by ISO50

We’re looking for a developer! This would be a mostly contract position but could potentially be a long-term retainer situation as well. We’re looking for the following skills:

· WordPress – This is first and foremost, you must be very familiar with WordPress and WordPress plugin development and modification

· General Web – All the standard stuff, PHP, CSS, HTML, MYSQL, etc.

· Visual Design – Not absolutely necessary as we do all the design production in-house, but would be a big plus to have some sort of visual background.

Interested parties please email Studio (at) ISO50 (dot) com. Be sure to include some examples of your work and a list of proficiencies.

Thanks!

A Gap Between + Walls + Dam Funk + AFX

Posted by Jakub

It’s funny when people call out certain music saying “oh this has potential”, I almost started to write that about A Gap Between then thought, no I just want more of this, its a satisfying listen because that seems to be my honest reaction after just 30 seconds in.

Walls are pushing forward, taking that Kompakt sound into this synthesized organic realm full of bells over swelling arpeggios, beautiful energy.

Dam-Funk is the master of what he does, he lives and breathes a sound that might get written off to the unexperienced ear or the sport watching happy hour goers but the people that understand him are highly rewarded.

Watch this AFX video, if you never were in the rave scene and just love AFX start from 5:05

Ellis Residence

The Ellis Residence is a place where most would go to retire away in the sub-urban countryside—Bainbridge Island near Seattle, Washington. Having been there a handful of times, I can assure you of its beauty.

The architects of the project, Coates Design, built this 2,560 sq. ft. contemporary home from materials of the pre-existing structure. They then implemented geothermal, photo-voltaic and solar technology solutions in an effort to reduce energy consumption. If you look closely in this photograph you can see one of the solar panels on the roof.
