SmallBlack + OPN + Actress + H. Pearls

Posted by Jakub

Sorry for distance recently, the Tycho tour couldn’t have been better and meeting some of you in person really kept our spirits up, now back to what means most to all of us, good music.

One band that I want to make it out of this Chillwave sinking ship is Small Black, I love the delivery of the vocals and they always have unique synth hooks and shimmers, FULL SUPPORT from me.

This new Oneohtrix Point Never record is slowly unraveling into from what i’ve heard a fusion of genre defying work, Nassau becomes more perfect with every listen, definitely the front runner for quality new music.

I’m a sucker for this kind of beat Actress put together, its almost never inappropriate to just interrupt anything in life and throw this on.

I did a sort of rework while I was tour managing Tycho of this Nacho Patrol song that I couldn’t get out of my head, the hypnotic/tribal elements in the original were poking me to be run thru some strange warmth, download it here for FREE.

Mux Mool + Burial + Peaking Lights + Onra

Posted by Jakub

A new Mux Mool track has already surfaced for his upcoming album Planet High School thats out in February 2012, the track Palace Chalice reminds me of the slower work from his debut LP Skulltaste, when I listen to it I imagine walking thru a casino all warped Fear In Loathing style. Grabbed from the BBC radio, here’s Burial remixing Massive Attack, very elegant, haunting and brittle.

Peaking Lights have been a favorite lately, after seeing them make their own equipment i’m excited to see how they do it live Friday, come by and say hello i’ll be doing a Heathered Pearls DJ set.

Onra going all out here, this is pretty much the equivalent to Super Fly car chase soundtrack but in Japanese.

Full Album Stream: Real Estate – Days

Coming late in the year but better late than never is the highly anticipated(definitely in my opinion) new album from Real Estate on Domino Recordings. Lead by Matt Mondanile aka Ducktails and his close friends, this record would have been the perfect summer album but it will fill that void of when I can’t listen to any more drone during the winter and need vocals that aren’t annoying. On Days they cut out most of the lo-fi feel, its more classic rock in the sense that you’d hear in a garage of your father’s friends house and you’d be like “this man has good taste“, its not all weak folk/rock like Decemberist or Death Cab and also doesn’t get all psychedelic(never a bad thing) like a Tame Impala album, just the perfect tone. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, pre-order the album here

Gui Boratto + Ruth + Daphni + Polysick

The new Gui Boratto album has some gems on it, actually one thing I like about it the most is that I could use this album as sort of tool to get new fans into this sort of music. Maybe get a club kid to sit down and take a break from the rowdiness he’s only been listening to and share this with him…lets be honest actually i’ll probably never sit down with a club kid though.

Do you ever need the easy in to get a party started? Roman Photo is that perfect icebreaker even for the coolest of kids that haven’t even finished their first PBR and are posting up in the kitchen by the mini keg.

If you’re looking around to see what Caribou is doing well this is it, under the name Daphni, i’ve posted a few tracks in the past, this one gets the blood going, what a good sample at 1:15, for 14 ISO50 points anyone know the original?

I found this small interlude the other day on Soundcloud by Polysick, for me this song is sooo visual and I don’t even take drugs, it screams early 90s but its tangled in a maze of early computer graphics and 3D rendering, I want more.

A Gap Between + Walls + Dam Funk + AFX

Posted by Jakub

It’s funny when people call out certain music saying “oh this has potential”, I almost started to write that about A Gap Between then thought, no I just want more of this, its a satisfying listen because that seems to be my honest reaction after just 30 seconds in.

Walls are pushing forward, taking that Kompakt sound into this synthesized organic realm full of bells over swelling arpeggios, beautiful energy.

Dam-Funk is the master of what he does, he lives and breathes a sound that might get written off to the unexperienced ear or the sport watching happy hour goers but the people that understand him are highly rewarded.

Watch this AFX video, if you never were in the rave scene and just love AFX start from 5:05

Stream Warm Ghost’s Album Narrows

Warm Ghost is a dark avant pop duo from Brooklyn that grab from unique influence and i’m going to have to say its one of my top ten albums of the year. They effortlessly grabbed from what I loved about where Telefon Tel Aviv left off and what made experimental projects from Bjork and David Byrne special. The meat and potatoes for me our tracks 2 – 8, I get some sort of natural high from them, its because of that mixture of the heavy kicks pounding along with Paul’s voice over echoes of alien like synths. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
