Garmonique

Posted by Alex 06/22/10

If the word ‘melancholy’ does not appear in this post, I am not doing my job. Sure the photographs of Garmonique are a little on the gloomy side, but that doesn’t stop them from being absolutely gorgeous. The color and composition of each is tremendous. (Can color/composition be described as tremendous? Probably not, but these shots are great enough that I willing to bend any vocabulary rules you might subscribe to.) He captures a very specific mood. I feel lost and lonely — but in a good way. Mysterious, dark and yes, melancholic indeed. That one image of the ocean reminds me a lot of the Hiroshi Sugimoto shot used for U2′s last album cover.

A bunch more on his Behance.

I can almost hear the thousands of electronic musicians simultaneously emailing him asking for album covers…

The photos convey a very somber mood. They look like stills from an independent/artsy film. Nicely done!

Nice indeed. Been seeing a lot of this fog photography lately. Using clouds as a blank canvas?

The one of the b&w ocean is VERY similar to a shot I just posted to my flickr.

Really love these pics, especially the first one. It actually really reminds me of Lights Out Asia’s most recent album cover (Tanks and Recognizers). Here’s a link to the cover art…see any similarities? Think I like this photographer’s pic better though. Btw, this album is amazing, and their previous one (Garmonia) is amazing too…Jakub should def check it out…should be right up his alley.
