Cover art: Jon Hopkins - Insides

Warp Records new signing Gonjasufi has a noticeable mindset that is screw whats trending i’m going to make something special that is my sound. With the soul filled song Duet he does wonderful additions/effects that sets him apart from just a one genre track. I personally love the effected guitar and the vocal echo, it really makes me want the song not to end.

New single from Neon Indian, I saw him this weekend perform live, he’s a rock star already, the whole package to entertain live and if he makes more music like this then he’ll definitely outlast the sound he leads. In Sleep Paralysist I hear abit of Human League and spot on synth melodies being layered, definitely a nice teaser for anything new he’s brewing up.

I found The Advisory Circle by just scrolling thru eMusic, its nothing new but nothing that’s broken either. Sometimes its nice to hear calming synth solos for a couple minutes, perfect for a quick daydream in the middle of the work day.

Jon Hopkins’ Light Through The Veins is the lighter side of even what M83 makes on his happiest days in the studio, it certainly has a cinematic sound especially the way the song ends. I’m just more of a fan of the build and layering I guess but the song gets a bit too long.

so maybe someone here can answer my question: Did Coldplay borrow the Jon Hopkins’ Light Through The Veins sound, or did he borrow from their Life In Technicolor. They are 95% the same song…

Yeah – The Advisory Circle is right up there. If you were a Brit in the 70s it’s something else. I’d also recommend Broadcast/The Focus Group’s 23-track collab. Freaky.

Hm, I recognize the sample Gonjasufi is using somewhere, and from what I understand, it’s not a very original usage of it.

The original had some vocals, and all this track did was record some new vocals for it. I could be wrong. Anyone else care to fill in here, or am I going crazy?

I just noticed a little sample that BoC borrowed from in there as well. What a gem….

Wow, the Jon Hopkins track is quite something. I agree that it could happily have ended at about 6.30 minutes instead of 9, although the little piano lullaby at the end is also pretty nice, maybe it should have been 2 separate pieces of music?

two.oh, surely that’s the Boc sample in there as opposed to visa versa. Either way the Spirit original is where it’s at. Incredible.

@Bryn

From what I’ve heard, Jon Hopkins had some input on the coldplay album, rather than the other way around

He also opened for coldplay for a number of shows
I thankfully stumbled across him at the big chill festival (UK) in between acts. as he started people were walking away from the previous act, then by the end of it, the audience was bigger than for anyone else that night. He’d just drawn them in

The visuals he has are amazing too. Heres a youtube video of the visuals to the track ‘vessal’

Def worth a look in.

Blasphemy. That track is magic in a bottle.

There are very few new wonderful effects on that Gonjasufi track. He’s just straight lifted The Other Song by the mighty Spirit and hacked the vocals off. I hope Warp are ready to fork out to the estate of Randy California. Or better still,re-release a best of Spirit. Doubt it though.

@pork, Diplo slipped that Spirit track (whole song intact) into the first AEIOU mixtape a while back — haunting shit. I feel a little disappointed to hear someone employing a loop of it with the original gorgeous vocals lifted from it, though.

Light Through The Veins is not too long. Its perfect just the way it is. I’ve been wondering when ISO would post it. :)
