With Detroit Electronic Music Festival over I needed to find a mix that summed how good it got at times and this recent Resident Advisor mix does a great job and I think some of you Tim and Eric fan might like the tracklist towards the end.
Seth Troxler has been the face of the new generation of DJs coming out the US that gets it because he has the depth when it comes to knowing new and old records, has the confidence to throw out that curve ball track to a full dance floor, and lives the lifestyle that many of us would just stare at and be floored that he can live thru it all by being able to DJ at 6pm or 5am or even noon the next day.

Prefuse 73 patches together a very strong 30 track LP called Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian, The artwork looks like it was thought out nicely and so was the record. Mr. Herren has reached a great level in music making which is instead of selling out and going the Steve Aoki celebrity DJ route and writing ringtone rap like some other fading stars that i follow on twitter. Herren sounds like he got to a point where he could really push his sound past glitch hop and more into sampling live instruments in the studio which should be every musicians dream but it isn’t anymore. Now he probably will get to work with great musicians and if anything I hope to hear some more collaborations with him and other New York bands.
New Doom is finally out in stores, it features this amazing Raekwon track and he also MC’s over J Dilla’s Lightworks!
Sex Trothler better known under the name Seth Troxler releases again on another Brooklyn based label called Wolf+Lamb Music. The sound reminds of straight early to mid 90s Detroit Techno that was minimalist, melodic, raw, and forward thinking. The vocal is a definite plus, it sounds like a proud diva, something many other younger producers would never of had the courage to touch.

Animal Collective keeps pulverizing the 2009 year, this time with a remix for Brooklyn’s Ratatat duo. This isn’t a song you skip around on and decide you don’t like because you sit thru the first 2 minutes and it might not do anything for you but where they build from there to about the 7 minute mark is a complete mind bend that can only be described by me as if the NES game Jackal(where you drive around in the Jeep’s) completely went spastic into some stuttering dream sequence which sounds awful but its a good thing.
One of the first records Tom Croose ever played me was this Paul Simon edit by Todd Terje, now I always ask him to play it whenever he dj’s out around town.
I’ve known Seth Troxler since he was in his teens, a definite talent in the house/techno world. He has this ear for perfecting tweaked vocals and keeping a song interesting by getting a new sound out of what works on the dance floor. The part where he comes in is where he disassembles tracks and follows the paths of people like Arthur Russell and Matthew Dear.
To keep with the older music kick recently I wanted to share/confess i’m not a big Beatles fan but I am a fan of this Paul McCartney song, some friends of mine have tried to play me some Beatles but I just couldn’t do it until I heard one record they did and it really grabbed me but I can’t for the life of me remember which one it was, its not that important, its not like there music is going to disappear anytime soon.
