Com Truise+FOE+Gold Panda+Hotel Mexico

Posted by Jakub

If Kraftwerk got a little more thuggish with their production and Joy Division sat down at computers to make their music then that project had a baby in the 80’s it would be called Com Truise. [all of that description is a good thing] The man just shoots out hits in my mind. Pyragony touches what recent synth pop artist can’t even grasp at, that flowing 80s FULL sound and this remix?! finally Pat Benatar teen girl fans can agree on something with the preppy girls, this song is an anthem for both.

Gold Panda has something up his sleeve, what he chooses to repeat and loop and lay over itself puts a smile on my face every time.

I want more Hotel Mexico, it has hints of Memoryhouse but with that violin intro it gets abit hoe down-ish but in a good way, maybe some similarities to Small Black even, whatever it is I want more.

1980s Vintage Porsche Ads

It’s funny how a lot of those things that you thought were boring when growing up, are now actually really fun things to do. I never would have thought I’d spend a sunny Seattle Saturday sifting through tubs and tubs of posters and ads. But its a damn good thing I did because I found these vintage Porsche ads. I was tempted to purchase all of them but instead I wrote down some info and looked them up online. All of these ads I found on eBay and were from the 1980’s. A few of them might be late 70’s, but it’s tough to tell.

The thing I really like about these ads is that they feel authentic. That’s not to say that ads nowadays aren’t authentic but there is certainly more than enough CGI being done to them. It also seems like it’s rare to see such nice large type of this treatment in ads anymore.

Sander from the comments informed us that Helmet Krone was the designer behind these ads—more info here.

Hulger Phones

Posted by Scott

Hulger makes some very well executed VoIP handsets with a nice retro slant. I’d have to say my favorite is the PIP*, it’s dripping with 80’s rich guy nostalgia. The Pappa is a little heavy-handed and leaning hard into 60’s Bostitch stapler territory, but it would look nice on the right desk if I had a second office that smelled of rich mahogany and a pipe was somehow involved.

Childhood memory of songs from my mom

Posted by Jakub

I always try to figure out why I listen to soo much music that has a soft flow to it, then I think about what songs I wanted to hear the most out of my mom’s music collection. She always seemed to have these great low key parties with close friends when we came to the States, I remember just laying there in the dark with the light and sounds coming from the cracked door, the tone was perfect, especially an uninterrupted front to back listen of The Police.

I really didn’t get to hear any Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Fleetwood Mac, etc that I can remember, some would say I missed out but its okay with me, I just wanted to thank my mom real quick ha! it was mostly this. Maybe because we came from Poland and this is what was popular in the mid 80’s-early 90’s? What did your parents love that just gets you every time still? I’m not going to lie I think my play count of early Sting is in the 100’s on iTunes. On a side note on this Enya song, make fun of it all you want BUT what production, its maybe cheesy for most but thinking of it as a new song i’d be really impressed from a solo artist to get this sound out of them.

The Sight Below: Post Rock Era Mix

Posted by Jakub

The Sight Below recently compiled an amazing tracklist for a Fact Magazine Mix, check the song list below, its packed with lush distorted dream pop from the 80’s and 90’s. I saw The Sight Below play 2 nights ago, it felt like I was falling back slowly for about 45 mins, it was perfect, I kept asking myself why do I listen to anything else. I’m putting this mix on repeat while I pack up and move today, enjoy your weekend.

Galaksija Computer

Posted by Scott

I came across this gem the other day but haven’t been able to find any better shots of it. The Galaksija was an early 80’s Yugoslavian DIY computer kit designed by Voja Antonić. I found the top shot — which I believe was taken at some sort of computer museum — at Avian’s Blog. Given that this was a DIY kit, the external appearance of each unit differed and most weren’t all that interesting. But that top one is incredible; I don’t know what I’d do with it, but I want it in my studio. Anyone have any other shots of this particular one?

Bonus: “High Resolution Graphics” on the Galaksija

Heads of State / Travel Posters

Great new series of posters by the Heads of State. I love the colors! (Vaguely reminiscent of the 826LA Time Travel series, with less type or floating people…) I wish travel agencies packed their walls with anything nearly this cool looking. I might actually decide to go somewhere based on the poster — as opposed to questioning my travel plans as I stare at a 1980’s US Air sponsored photograph of “Miami”.

Don’t forget their Legal Weed packaging too. Hilarious stuff. The Travel series is available for purchase here.

As promised here are the results for yesterday’s contest:
Mux Mool – “Skulltaste” CD Winners:
Chad, Erika, Spencer (I have emailed you guys)
Thanks to everyone that played! i’ll line up another free giveaway very soon, hopefully its something we will do frequently on ISO50.

Black Moth Super Rainbow I think is one of those bands that fits perfectly on the blog, they have their melodies down, always impressive synth work and dynamic range on the noise and crazy sequencing. With the addition of the vocals from the Air song, this should be a must have for the veteran and newbie listeners.

I’ve been meaning to post a Millionyoung song, he reminds me of Washed Out but a version that you might hear going out instead of home listening. The digital synth work is laid on heavy but his voice evens it out nicely.

France’s Kavinsky is probably one of the only Ed Banger artists I still listen to besides older Mr. Oizo. I can’t get away from his sound, he doesn’t always go overboard and I love the 80’s night cop chase feel and strong artist branding behind the project.

These New Puritans song is too short, even though it rides a thin line of something i’d probably never listen to(I think its the piano part and voice combo) but the horn and vibraphone playing totally redeems it!
