Top 5 Underrated Nintendo Songs

Posted by Jakub

nintendo-nes-box
Sure everyone knows the usual Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Castlevania, Zelda, Metroid, Jackal, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, etc. What I come to realize is how much of an impact it made on enjoying certain sounds and being aware of them at such an early age. Well here it is, feel free to list what you think I missed in the comments, remember the key word is underrated.

5. Town & Country Surf Designs

The surf game no one could beat in my neighborhood, loved the loop and chord change, and the cover oh how great that cover was.

4. Super Dodge Ball – Kenya Theme

I remember playing this game for hours just to get to Kenya so I can hear those drums, that flute… wellllllll lets not talk about the flute.

3. Blades Of Steel

Oh those lower notes, I loved them, the kid in me would cry if I didn’t put a hockey game on this list so here you go you weird time traveling crybaby.

2. Battletoads

At 0:28 my child mind felt like it was glowing, made we worship delayed sounds every since.

1. Bad Dudes

It almost makes me tear up its soo good, I almost want to knock on my neighbors door now and ask him if he wants to go outside and play guns.

Heathered Pearls Pouring Embers Mix

I try not to set too many guidelines when I put together a new mix, this one for Self-Titled Mag had a theme though which was remixes that weren’t dancefloor based. Over the years i’ve kept small playlists of tracks to use during mixes, tracks that I like to listen to when I work, or tracks that i’ll play out, this is definitely a home/work listen in a quiet space. I hope you all enjoy, remember Dettinger and Echospace are two of the most underrated music projects for relaxation, I couldn’t imagine my collection of music without them.

“‘Pouring Embers’ is a continuous 10-song playlist of remixes that might be overlooked because they aren’t dancefloor based. If I picked dancefloor favorite remixes this mix would have been for peak hour Berghain in Berlin or some cozy Scandinavian sea voyage. These deconstructions and reworks all have a certain concentration to them, a focus on release and a wandering curiosity because they explored the sounds that were given to them of a song that most likely picked out, that breakdown has always been fascinating compared to realigning percussion.”

CFCF + DJ Koze + Pareja + Kyle Hall

CFCF has a monopoly on engaging clean repetitive music, this new single proves that.

I’m always impressed with DJ Koze’s direction on a remix, always far out editing and always puts in an honest effort of making something special.

This new single from DJs Pareja & Philipp Gorbachev from the Comeme crew is out of this world, its this fusion of culture that is still raw and fresh feel, i’m getting Germany tropical acid vibes, thats pretty impressive to pull off.

Mount Kimbie is rolling out remixers for their LP, this one from Detroit’s Kyle Hall touches on some great thinned out house essentials.

Autumnal days feel exceptionally short in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. The sun rises but hardly invites. The inevitability of night is impending. As 2012 came to a close, Teen Daze entered a state of repose. He wrote new material, and for the first time he found the process not to be a means of escape or refuge. Rather than imagining an outward utopia, or seeking an inward sanctuary, he simply engaged his work with his reality, his physical world. Like it’s namesake, Glacier is more than solidified water adrift in a sea of home-produced electronic music. It is a collection of moments, historical particles and physical experiences, gathered into a whole. Varied yet cohesive, Glacier finds Jamison confident both as a drifter and a romantic. Lyrics are used personally and sparingly, often drifting in and out on a single phrase. “No one sees you, the way I see you”, he repeats through opener “Alaska”. Album centerpiece “Ice On The Windowsill” celebrates the notion of remaining indoors with the one you love as the world frosts over. Connecting each epiphany are wordless ruminations—like the twisted pitch of“Tundra”, the cool warmth of “Forest At Dawn”—some of the most evocative sound design in Teen Daze’s career to date. The album’s fixation on manifesting physicality translates to being a highly performative production. The role of live instruments, field recordings, and general human presence is evident in these songs. This was a deliberate choice; Teen Daze plans to tour in support of the release for the first time as a full band—essentially to actualize Glacier in the physical world.

Ladies and gentlemen we have album of the year potential going on right above this text. I love how he keeps his sounds always in motion, shifting through different emotional connections you might have made with certain melodies.

Earlier this month we released the title track of The Field’s upcoming album Cupid’s Head, and we would like to say thanks to everyone who’s shown their support and the positive response we’ve received thus far;

“Back in 2007, he introduced From Here We Go Sublime with “Over the Ice”; on “Cupid’s Head”, Willner’s going through the smoke.”
-Pitchfork

“The album is his first to be recorded entirely using ‘real’ gear – no computers in sight kids – and you can certainly hear that in ‘Cupid’s Head’s shimmering textures and brittle beatbox beats.”
-FACT

Now, as a pre weekend treat, and a few days before its official release on September 30th

TMMRW + Absolutely + Clams + Les Level

TMMRW must have just perfected the future of New Age.

Absolutely Free comes to us from all different angles, can’t really put this in a genre, feels like Her Space Holiday remixes chained together, not feeling the screaming but i’ll sit through it for the other parts.

If you’re playing GTA V then i’m guessing you’ve heard the new Clams Casino?

100% Silk has been orchestrating the soft late night house from a distance to the point of perfection, such a solid label, here’s one from a recent signing Les Level.

Molina + Broker + Machinedrum + Ditt Inre

If you asked me who i’d like to make music with that isn’t a legend of some sort i’d say Juana Molina, she has a great way of finding out what sounds good on repeat, I find that as one of the most important gifts in making any sort of noise.

The Beat Broker is always on the ISO50 blog, this jam feels like it was made for the blog, heavy melancholia that sits right outside the atmosphere and sketches across into your peripheral vision coloring it in with only the most lush experience.

Machinedrum has this tweaked out speedy dance music on autopilot, he delivers every time these days.

Cascine holding down that soft spot in our hearts, always finding those artists that deliver bliss and Ditt Inre isn’t any different.

…And I am back
