I always wondered how much of an influence the music i grew up listening to had on the sort of stuff I gravitate towards now days. I hope some of these “oldies” are a nice change of pace for everyone, hey i might even link this post to my Dad.

man, paul simon never gets old. I saw rush at arco arena during the roll the bones tour, amazing show, lasers and bikers everywhere. it was a seated concert and when tom sawyer came on my friend jumped up and started yelling and some huge hells angel guy behind us grabbed his collar and yanked him back into his seat.

Since we are posting them and they’re not downloadable its pretty much pure promotion for the musician, i would of taken it one step further by linking a place to buy the songs but they all are platinum records by now and available at any record store

yeah, at this point it’s pretty much been accepted (even by massive old-garde labels) that mp3 blogs are a positive thing. like jakub said, pure promotion.

There is no such thing as not downloadable.

If you can stream it, you can download it. For instance, the download link to “Rush” is https://blog.iso50.com/audio/rush.mp3.

I used a packet analyser, but it’s also displayed in the HTML, albeit in base 64 (aHR0cDovL2Jsb2cuaXNvNTAuY29tL2F1ZGlvL3J1c2gubXAzA = https://blog.iso50.com/audio/rush.mp3).

It’s a question of making it harder for people to rip them off, which has been done to a certain extent here.

Jakub, nice job on Naive Melody. That is my favorite track in the “Stop Making Sense” movie; one of the greatest concert films in existence. David Byrne is fascinating to me.

Just a technical note. Unfortunately, your music player doesn’t want to work with Firefox in windoze. It gets to 100% buffering but never moves on to actual playing. I’m on Firefox 3.0.1 w/ Flash 9.0 r124.

It gets better. When you try to load iso50.com in IE (yes why would you do that, IE blows, but harken back to my first paragraph, Firefox doesn’t want to play your tunes) the entire site fails. It loads nearly all the way, and then throws the downright baffling, and new, “Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site” error at which point it gives up completely and shows it’s 404 page.

There’s posts all over the interwebs about this choice error. My favorite are when people respond “It was my Skype plug-in that was causing the problem!”. Hmm, no, I don’t think so. I think it was actually Microsoft’s gross ineptitude and complete lack of actual testing with their products in real-world situations. But thats just my opinion, please feel free to form your own.

Anyway, great blog, when I use it. ; )

Technical note, I heard the songs just fine in firefox on windowz and on mac, but this post is in windows, but great post, i to have wondered how musical influences of the past effect the future, but for me its like looking at the music my grandmother would play when I was a kid and they later became the music that I listened to when I was a young adult. (a lot of classic rock ie hendrix, stones, doors, crosby, stills and nash and young and a boat load of jazz and blues with a sprinkle of motown on top. she sang with count basie at a couple of shows in LA) but great post what about the cars-moving in stereo, and phil collins-anything from face value and hello! I must be going. good stuff. cb might want to get his computer checked cause your site works in all browsers on all my comps-3 windows and 3 macs

thanks much for the heads up. I too steer clear of IE at all costs, but that’s not a good excuse for the blog completely crashing it. I did some troubleshooting and narrowed it down to the Audio Player plugin I am using for the MP3s on the site. I just upgraded to the beta version of it last week (see the note at the bottom of this post: https://blog.iso50.com/?p=2153). Apparently the plugin works ok when you only have a few instances of it, but once more than 3 or 4 posts with the audio player embedded are displayed on the same page (as is almost always the case with the front page), it chokes IE and gives that error. I have temporarily downgraded to the older version of the plugin until a fix is released.

as for the firefox infinite buffering issue, this is something I’ve been aware of for some time. it is inherant to the plugin itself, just restarting FF usually fixes that (I know it shouldn’t have to be that way, but that’s just how it is I guess).

Man, great songs! I’m a huge Police fan. Jason has a point, The Cars were also an excellent band I grew up listening to. Since we’re on the subject of music, I can’t wait to hear some new tunes from you!

Naive melody is brilliant. ‘Speaking in Tongues’ is their best album in my opinion, even better than Remain in the Light for me.

A couple of my friends put on an electronic night in Manchester, England called Naive Melody and its the best night in Manchester. In fact going back to your Michael Mayer post last week Scott they had him and Superpitcher there about six months ago.
