Canon SD780 Vs. burning man was my favorite post!

I really enjoyed The Dark Side of the Lens. I work alot with stills and fixed layouts in different formats and I find video very inspiring – I´m not a surfer at all – but very impressed with people who master video as art.

I´d put a “18 on my wishlist!

Jakub posted a track from Tame Impala in a playlist in May ‘10. TI is now one of my favorite Bands.

I also liked the tycho live band photos from April.

“Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man” is most definitely my favorite post from this year.

I think my favorite post was the Experimental Jetset Presentation at the Walker Art Center.

Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man. It actually inspired me to go out and update my 4 year old cheap point-and-shoot. I ended up going with a Canon S95 and I love it.

One of my favorite posts this year was your Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man article. Because of the beautiful imagery and later you comment about your process which I found very informative. So much so that I’ve kept the article bookmarked.

I hope that if I already have both the ISO50 and Tycho facebook pages ‘Liked’ that I’m still counted for those entries =)

I loved the Dark Side of the Lens.

Hmmmm. Favorite post of the past year. I would have to say the “Tycho Album Progress” post was my favorite of all, for a few reasons.

First of all, the photos were crazy inspirational…seeing the process of electronic music being made in such a tangible, tactile way made a huge impact on me.

Second, the honesty of the prose was excellent. So many artists are like, “I’m the G.O.A.T., follow me, get up on my level” with their whack _ss youtube videos and whatnot, but here is a dude making hot jawns (excuse the Philly slang) but who is crazy humble about the anxiety of creating an organized body of work and the struggle with the process. Loved it.

Third, the photos again…your studio is the ish.

There were a lot of other great posts…the ‘creative block’ post, the nofomo post and a few others that were very good, but this one is my favorite.

My favorite post was the post of pictures from Alex’s trip to Japan. Alex took his trip to Japan a few months before I did. Seeing the post made me look even more forward to the trip.

Every year is always ripe with great posts, this year was no exception – I loved the Overcoming Creative Block, Tycho Album Progress, etc. – but I must say that my favorite post was the announcement of the Tycho show in NYC this past September. I still have that soundboard-audience matrix tape of the show, I’ll have to get you the raw version while I continue playing with it!

The music and design combo posts always do it for me, expecially the Project Thirty Three entry. Still trying to find some of those covers out in the field.

Favorite post specifically is the Overcoming Creative Block post and generally anything that Alex posts – especially his Japan pics

The playlists are always great posts, but I would have to say the Burning Man post was the most memorable to me. Until I saw those photos, I always kinda scoffed at the whole Burning Man schtick like I’d scoff at a Widespread Panic 15 minute guitar solo. Your photos from that set totally changed my perspective and painted a much different picture for me. If that ain’t art, I don’t know what is. Thanks.

Anything to do with photography. I especially liked seeing the before and after shots on the Burning Man trip.

I loved your post about Burning Man – it was my first burn this year as well and I thought your images were incredible and I actually took a photo of the SAME person – the man in the short-shorts and the short boots. What are the odds of that? Only at Burning Man. ;)

I absolutely love the playlists and architecture posts. However, my favorites are the retro abstracts, like the swiss air posts.

I really liked the Atari Computer Concepts post. Swiss Air is up there too. Vintage Ski adds as well. Also the post by Jakub that introduced me to Emeralds.

The GAP logo redesign was the best as it proved your worth from a pop culture perspective.

What started as a blog you would post information, music, etc. to has turned into a cultural epicenter for art, design and the like; it’s been great to see the growth and to grow with you Scott!

Dark Side of the lens (30th sept 2010) definitely stood out but I liked the Swiss Air posts just as well. :)

My favorite posts of the year have to be, “there will always be echoes” the MG machinedrum edit was and is one of my favs of 2010. Also the covers series which seems to bring a lot of great artists together and inspire priceless collabortions.

Swiss Holiday House is definitely my favorite post! LOVE IT!!! snowboarding & the mountains are my greatest passions and this is my dream house. thanks for the groovy website and posts, it always inspires me! happy holidays & new year. peace!

Well choosing a single post might be difficult, but Shigeto’s Full Cirle album was amazing. I’m tied between that and the Matthias Heiderich posts.

And stumbling across phantogram was a highlight of my year.

But I think I’ll say Matthias Heiderich. As a student I’ve just started photography recently, and his work has given me plenty of inspiration.

Honestly, I know this is a recent post, but I loved the last Project Thirty Three post. I am a DJ and amateur designer and those album covers were just the BEST! I love nothing more than simplistic design and bold colours.

Dark Side of the Lens really grabbed my attention as well! Great effort and consistency.

My very first post was the Playlist 10 and so this is my obvious choice :)

What I have enjoyed the most – in addition to the looks into your own work, of course – were the posts on the many exotic or far-away spots. I want to someday talk my friends into renting Casa Kimball (likely during the off-season) and the New York loft stair drawers inspired me to build some in my basement.

Your post on The Encounters At The End of the World was one of my favorite recent posts. I hadn’t heard of the documentary before and after reading your post I wanted to check it out. I recently got the chance to watch it and it really was quite interesting. I’ve recommended it to several of my friends.

A recent post about the SwissAir logo made me find myself staring at the images for much longer than normal. I’m very excited about the design that is brought to light in this blog, and I really appreciated this one in particular as a lot of swiss design influences my own work. Rock on!

I would have to chose your music posts, I get to discover some new sounds and that’s something I carry on and inspires me to come up with some designs.

Almost every playlist you post are my favourite. But that said i was super stoked with Alex’s post of surfing video “The Dark Side Of The Lens”, super inspiring short film.

It may be a bit of a cop-out, but the ‘Most Refreshing Albums of 2010’ post was has been my favourite in recent days. The Dry Waves collection was amazing as well – love Warm Ghost. But it was really great to see your 2010 albums represent so many artists that I hugely adore. Plus, I found a new obsession in Emeralds!

The IBM photographs were definitely my favorite. Gorgeous.

Oooh, I really like these prizes :) Anyway, so the post that I remember the best is the one about the 1980s HBO intro ( The Making Of ). I’ve only been a designer since the computer some-what overruled the necessities of hand-created motion graphics. It was pretty inspiring to see the intricate amount of detail and work that went into it.

The Tycho Album Progress post was fantastic. It was great to have a view into your creative process and the photos were simply amazing, and inspiring to know I’m on the right track with my own gear collection.

nueva forma is how i live my life

Your post about the North American Wildlife series led me to discover one of my favorite designers Mark Weaver. In turn I discovered his flickr blog “make something everyday” which inspired me to do the same.

Love the GAP fiasco that went on, and the endless list of solutions that readers submitted. Great work design world. Don’t take no for an answer!

Sooooo, I pretty much love anything that you put your hands on, but if I have to pick something out of the prizes (and something that I don’t already own….hahaha), it would probably be the ARMADA skis! ARMADA is an amazing company all the way down to it’s roots, by starting the company because the bigger players in the ski industry wouldn’t let ski designers make skis that were built to ride by guys who spend most of their time on the slopes. They only wanted to design skis that would appeal to your average Joe who only spends two weeks of the year skiing. Plus they have always valued a good design aesthetic! I seriously hope I win!

Can’t really think of a favorite post. I liked the one with the strange slo-mo music video. I also like the Architecture posts.

i must admit that i started reading this blog as an admirer of scott’s beautiful work and all of the the design related content and now it is the music posts from jakub that keep me coming back.

it was his first post on flying lotus waaaay back in august of 08 that grabbed my attention and has kept me captivated ever since.

I could not find it in the post archives so I don’t know the exact name, but I would have to say the homemade card board camera.

For me, the GAP logo redesign project turned out to be really interesting. As I still didn’t start my studies in art (studying in science but planning on going in infographics or publicity at university), it got me to realize how logos of big trademarks were stamped in my subconscious as most entries just felt wrong to me by not being the original logo.

Of course, the playlists are also one thing I can’t wait for to come out!

I was taken back by “The Longest Exposure” post back on July 27th of this year. It was amazing to me that a combination of a very simple camera and a long period time could yield such beautiful images. Definitely noteworthy. Keep them amazing posts cooking!

Browsing back quickly, some of the ones that stood out for me were Atari computer concepts, they were incredible! The Dark Side Of The Lens, I need to watch that again! But the HBO Intro I maybe might say is my fave. Oh yeah and loved the Shigeto vs Mux Mool interview too. Great year.

My favorite post this year was either the feature on some of Mark Weaver’s work, very inspiring and helpful to me as a designer, or the dark side of the lens video post. That video was so ridiculously well done it shot chills up my spine.

I can’t pin point one specific post that I like besides all others… But I thoroughly enjoy all the music posts. It’s one of my best sources for finding new artists and new tunes. I really dig all the album artwork that comes along as well.

Btw, iso50 medium shirts shrink up to be rather snug (not as bad as threadless which go unwearable), so I bought larges and can’t get em to shrink enough. Sigh, #inbetweensizes…

The semi-recent “dark side of the lens” article was something I kept going back to. Probably because the images were so striking and I kept wanting to go back and look at the stills. So based on time spend perusing, I’ll have to say it was my favorite.

Dark Side of the Lens really inspired me. I still see visions from that video in my head at random times of the day. I WILL spend more time with the video side of my 5d/II more!

I really love all the inspiring music that Jakub posts, I started working more with synths probably as a result of this blog. If you made me choose a specific post, I’d say dark side of the lens. I still watch it often.

As swiss, the best post was for me “Geigy Graphic Design” of course… Beautiful example of swiss rationalism design.

And… I need these ARMADA’s skis!

My favorite post was the Gap rebranding fiasco. It was great to see all of the designers (the talented, and the terrible) post their ideas and reinterpretations of the brand.

I also enjoyed when Skulltaste was announced. I was happy to see that Mux finally released a full lenth!

Lastly, I loved seeing Com Truise get the #1 spot for album of the year!

I loved the Tobacco interview. Maniac Meat is a great album and it was stellar to hear from the artist himself, not to mention his bizarre answers.

No Fear of Missing Out was by far the best post of 2010

“The Longest Exposure” post was definitely my favorite of the year. I’ve shown those images to many of my friends. That’s not to say anything else on this blog is much less incredible.

I also loved the post where Scott announced he would be doing visuals with CVJ at his show in SF recently, mainly because it made my trip up from San Diego that much more worth it.

I really liked the article entitled Above Everything Else… I’ve seen the The Third & The Seventh by Alex Roman as well, he is amazing at what he does.

I love the play list posts — they really represent the tone and feel of this entire blog, and you can sense the time that was put into the selection of eclectic tracks and custom art work.

Each playlist gives me a road-map of new musical destinations to explore!

I liked the post about a 182 square foot home. It really got me interested in pico-dwelling and optimizing the vacant space in my apartment.

Favorite Post: How Ink Is Made. I just found it interesting, since I work with color all day long at my job. Love so many other posts too though.

“Metal Heart: Tilt-Shift Video” is one of the coolest tilt shift vids I’ve ever seen. That gave me inspiration to shoot snowboarding in tilt-shift… a body doing fantastic aerials over HUGE kickers… turned out amazing.

Hard choice I love all the posts on architecture as well as music but my favorite would have to e the feature on Shigeto. Coming from a drumming background myself, I find he gives inspiration for my own music.

My favorite post was ‘Making of the Obama print’. I found the process of the creation you explained very much interesting. I wish you posted more of this and maybe tips on how to do stuff like you do (working with patterns and layers etc). Cheerio!

My favorite post from this year has definitely been the Mark Kozelek playlist. I am a huge Mark fan, and there were some gems on that list that I didn’t know about, so was very happy to see them. It brings me a lot of joy to know much you like and respect his music and yet play an entirely different genre. Great to see the album covers on this site, too, among the more modern designs.

I loved Alex’s NOFOMO process post! Made me excited for my design classes next fall..

By far my favorite post was the Video for Four Tets Remix of Vessel by Jon Hopkins. A gorgeous video. I watch it all the time.

My favorite from this year was the post on Brian Eno covers. The packaging for the new album is tops.

It’s a toss up between Swissair logos, Atari concepts, and HBO branding posts. Though, most everything that comes out of this blog is enjoyable.

My favourite post from last year was the first Leica gush a couple of months ago. I am almost certain I will never be able to afford such a device, but I can appreciate the design nonetheless!

Best post for me had to be the interview segment with Shigeto and Mux Mool, both are favorites of mine and I’m glad to see all the support your blog gives.

I really liked the Swissair logos. Gave me a ton of inspiration. But the post that takes the cake for me is Playlist 10. You guys really do a fantastic job of picking out some great music that isn’t the easiest to find.

This has become one of my very favorite blogs.
I love the refreshing music posts, old revivals of design, and the explorations of photography.
The post about the Leica M9 had me obsessed with photography for weeks, and now I’ve been experimenting with my mom’s old Minolta XG-1.
It feels so authentic and genuine to go all manual/analog with it.

I loved watching all the redesigned gap logos come in that really brought a cool fun way to interact with you guys.

As much as I love checking my RSS feeds and listening to all the music you post, this year my favorite post has also got to be Dark Side of the Lens. I’ve always been afraid of cameras and expensive equipment, which is somewhat crippling when you’re a vfx student. Dark Side of the Lens helped me realize I need to focus on the work, and not worry so much about the equipment.

My favorite post was the announcement of the New Ghostly 10 Print. I got one of the 200 limited fist editions and I love it.

It would be hard to narrow down one post from the past year as my ‘favorite’. But I will say this blog has expanded my record collection – not to mention design aesthetic – significantly. There are only 5 websites I check nearly every day: VeloNews, NYT Style Magazine, Pitchfork, Fast Company and ISO50. Thanks for a great year.

My fave post of the year was “Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man” It was awesome seeing someone finally capture the feeling of it, rather than just people in wacky costumes.

Dark Side of the Lens stands out in my mind. Also, any IS50 playlists get heavy rotation!

Love all the posts about vintage advertising (porsche, synthesizers, swissair posters, etc)… so great to see what people did before the advent of computer design and world-at-you-fingertips/Google Search type of mentality was so prevalent. That was a time when The Concept still reigned at the head of the creative table and there was enough time actually given to the design process to make interesting, provoking decisions. Now it’s all about cranking work out as fast as possible and, oh, by the way, try to make it look cool/amazing while you’re at it…

I think my favorite post would have to be PL:9 because I had it on repeat while painting a huge basement and it made it so much more tolerable. The cover art was also fantastic.

Love the Darkside of the Lens post from 9/30 (had to do some backtracking to find it). Sooooo smooth!

Well, the making of HBO introduction was really incredible :)

Have to say it’s hard to pick a favorite….
But if I had to choose it would be the Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures. Top notch music and photography, plus Portland is my home town so I am little biased : )

I really enjoyed Alex’s post about Josef Schulz’s series Sign Out. It’s such a great idea and incredible just how much of our landscape is dominated by signs. You never know what you have until it’s gone (and in this case, it looks much better gone).

Some of the commenters already mentioned it: the Playboy redesign was great.

More than anything, though, Jakub’s music posts (especially Most Refreshing Albums of 2010 post which I’m listening to now) and the ISO50 playlists keep me subscribed, but I love seeing the design and music posts that are posted in between.

Just purchased a few new tee’s and mp3’s been a long time reader/viewer prior to this blog even being created.

Really, one favorite post. At the risk of sounding like a suck up there are a few that caught me at different times in the creative walk this year.
Naïve: Modernism and Folklore would be the starting point.Far to often i over work my designs. I have to remember to simplify and streamline sometime, if not all the time.

Overcoming Creative Block, followed nicely a month later. Why it makes more sense when people other than co-workers say this, I’ll never know.

North America Wildlife, Again the beauty of simplicity leaps from the designs posted by Mark Weaver. Beautiful.

Thanks for the indigestible amount of work and thought provoking post. Keep it up.

The post that I was most enamored with was SD780 v. Burning Man. I was especially impressed by the amazing pictures you were able to coax out of the harsh yet beautiful desert environment. After living in the desert for 5 years, it makes me happy when someone expresses a new found appreciation for the austere yet stunning beauty of the desert.

Past Is Prologue – Pure Inocent Soundscape

I just found Tycho/ISO50 a few days ago and I have been listening to your music non-stop since then. From the little I’ve read so far, my favourite post was “Tycho Album Progress.” As someone who wants to get into making electronic music, it was pretty cool to read about parts of the process.

Really liked the Burning Man post. Gave me some great ideas… should I ever find myself talented enough with photoshop to be able to do such awesome stuff.

I really like the posts about the design of cars and homes, very difficult to distinguish. But perhaps that is remembered is the position in this year’s “Washed Out + James Murphy + Caribou +KBD”03/25/10 from that post became acquainted with the music Washed Out. Thank you

Loved the making of the HBO movie bumper. Seeing that still frame on the blog brought everything back. That funny lazer music, the flyover of the city. Seeing it now was a little sad, though, as it felt so much more real as a kid. But the amount of artistry required back then was amazing. Thanks for the great post!!

I thoroughly enjoy reading this blog. You’ve got great aesthetics. It’s hard to choose one *favorite* post for sure! I would have to say I really appreciated the post on Unevolved Brands. It was really eye opening to me to see branding broken down to it’s essence of colors and shapes, and to examine the pervasiveness of corporate branding in our collective memory. Thanks for that, and for everything you post.

I also very much enjoy reading about your creative process in the development of your music and art, along with your studio photography. I think it is fascinating to see how one views one’s own work and workspace.

I’d have to say the making of Designspiration was my favorite post of the year, not because it was a particularly awe inspiring post itself, but because the site it opened me up to is awe inspiring.

As far as more traditional posts go it’s really hard to not pick a large handful of posts, but two stand out: The Dark Side of The Lens, as many have stated, and the largely overlooked Mads Berg Illustration post. Something about his style has really stuck with me for whatever reason; it’s a perfect blend of mathematical precision, whimsical visuals, and straight up class.
