1000th Post: Thank You + Giveaway

Posted by Scott

Update: Congrats to the big winners: Luci (Lucizzle), Rob (norby), and Bill (serrano). You’ve all been contacted, let me know via the contact page if you don’t get the email.

Last night I hit the publish button on the Buamai post then glanced at the overall post count and noticed it read 999. So that would make this the 1000th post on the ISO50 Blog. Pretty amazing, I never would have guessed the number was that high. I am really good at missing milestones (birthdays, weddings, holidays, anniversaries, etc..) and somehow I missed it when the blog turned 1 year old. So I’m glad I caught this one, seems like a nice round number to celebrate.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has visited, commented, and supported over the past few years. It’s been an incredible learning experience for me and I’ve really enjoyed hearing all of your thoughts on the various subjects we post on. I originally started the blog simply because I wanted an easier way to update the small news section that was on the old, but since then it’s grown far beyond that initial scope. I can’t say for sure what the next 1,000 will bring, but there are a lot more upgrades and features coming, along with all the usual posts and music, so stick around!

So now on to the festivities: Drop a line in the comments, then sign up for the RSS Feed or the Newsletter and you’ll be entered to win 3 shirts, 3 posters, and a CD of your choice from the ISO50 Shop (be sure to include an email so we can track you down if you win). If you’re already a subscriber, then just add a comment and you’re set. Two runners-up will get 1 shirt, 1 poster, and a CD. The winners will be chosen from the comments at random in a week (May 20th).

So again, thank you all for your support, it’s always appreciated. I also want to thank Jakub, Alex, Beamer, and Sam for all their great posts, you guys are always on point! And as always, I value your opinions so please feel free to take this as an opportunity to make any suggestions or maybe just list your all-time favorite post(s).

Update: Thanks everyone for the kind words! I’ve been on the road so been hard to get the drawing done, thanks for your patience. I will pick a winner today hopefully and get in touch.

Regardless, thanks for a great blog, I’ve learned so much from the content here and it has really helped me grow as a designer these past couple years. So, I guess in that sense I already win!

Keep up the good work, congrats.

PS favorite post, or the one that sticks with me to this day, is the one on the Smiths…’cause damn I never dug them before and after that post I can’t get them outta my head! Ironically it had nothing to do with the visuals…

I would love to see more about your own music-making…not sure if you’re into putting up the behind-the-scenes on that stuff. Otherwise just looking forward to whatever you’ve got…

Matthew says:

May 14, 2009 at 7:43 am

This blog is absolutely amazing. The amount of fresh &, most importantly, relevant content is highly commendable! I visit this blog several times a day for inspiration & a often a chilled break from client driven work at the agency which I work at. This site gives me the glimpse into the world of art direction that is untainted by lack of client insight. Its bloody awesome, just wish i could buy stuff from the shop from my country (South Africa), because the Northern lights print would look amazing in my lounge…haha

Keep sending the posts Scott, you inspire loads of people.

long time listener/reader, first time poster … Your site is one of my top discoveries of 2008 along with the music of Ghostly International. You continue to make my day with the awesome handpicked sonic goodness you serve — definitely discovered some ill shiznit I hadn’t been privy too. On the design tip, I’m in the middle of a late 20-s renaissance of sorts. I eschewed art class in high school & college because I had convinced myself I wasn’t creative & was devoid of artistic abilities. Somehow toying with image-editing apps on my mac unlocked my artistic fount & your artwork has on occasion served as a connect-the-dots/coloring book learning guide (only to learn, not to plagiarize of course). I would have purchased some shirts or posters long ago but in the midst of an interminable job hunt rent & utilities have taken priority and left nothing for fun things. Here’s to getting lucky & thanks for shakin’ my computer booty & keepin’ things beautiful on my computer screen. Cheers!

Congradz! Other than all the great music I find from subscribing to the RSS feed I really liked the design tutorial you did (I’m hoping for more on this vintage style of yours) and the articles on music and design hardware, like the article on SSDs and raid.

I could use some posters for my blank walls, and some shirts for my blank torso!

I wish this blog well, and hope that it will become something even greater in the many years to come. And yes, it will always be my default-automatically opened tab when I open Firefox. It’s just that awesome.

Ryan Whynott says:

May 15, 2009 at 8:56 am

I first saw your work years ago, before you had this blog. It really stood out and I found it inspiring. Your blog is in my ‘Daily’ bookmarks folder and I sincerely appreciate being able to get access to the sort of content that you feature, so easily and consistently. I can’t possibly think of an entry that I would say is my favorite, however I can say that I have been exposed to a lot of great music, design work and overall useful information. The somewhat recent entry about Windows 7, for example, came in very handy.

In short, nice work, keep it up!

Ryan Whynott says:

May 15, 2009 at 9:11 am

Um… officially eating my words about not being able to find a favorite entry. Your comments about the quality of film vs. digital photography, in the post titled, “Why Film Can Never Die” were concise to a point which I found very refreshing.
