Sekretar Flatmate
Posted by Scott
The Sekretär Flatmate is one of those pieces of furniture that makes me think I’d somehow become 50% more productive just by having it in my house. That’s probably not the case, but it would look great either way. Anybody actually have one of these things? €990 seems a bit steep for me, but I could see how it might be worth it if you were short on space in some NYC studio or something.

December 1, 2011 at 12:27 pmLooks like a relatively easy build… the back panel looks just like one of the modular wall panels on mah cube at work. $900 though? I’d more likely spend that on an Aeron and keep my Jerker.

December 2, 2011 at 12:15 pmhow does one insure vertical stability? seems like it would get knocked over quite easily if it wasn’t against a wall.

December 2, 2011 at 1:08 pmOops should probably have linked to the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40146171/"American IKEA page.
@Bobby The IKEA one says you should anchor it to the wall with the enclosed anti-topple device. It’s probably the same thing for the Flatmate.

December 3, 2011 at 1:09 pmLooks like Simon beat me. I actually prefer the Ikea LUDVIG, despite it being thicker. I think the contrasting black interior is nicer and the front opening doors on the bottom are far more practical.

December 11, 2011 at 3:57 amWell, I prefere this one over IKEA’s solution. The Flatmate looks more robust and I like the way, the bevelled edges fit to each other. And the material (multiplexed birch) should be a lot more durable than the IKEA version.
IKEA’s pricetag is nice, of course, but remember: You always get what you pay for. And try to move with their furniture more than twice;-)
Just a small dislike with this kind of furniture: Where would I put my legs, when sitting next to a wall that close?? :P
