The TRON Suite
Posted by Shelby White
At first I wasn’t a TRON fan, but it has definitely grown on me. After seeing this TRON Suite at the world-famous Swedish Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, I might have to watch the movie. The designers of this suite, Ben Rousseau and Ian Douglas-Jones, utilizing ultra-low energy lights that appear to be frozen in or behind the ice—brilliant!
The whole thing reminds me of a nightclub. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised to see a night club made of ice pop up next door to the hotel sometime soon. What are your thoughts on this—would you stay here?

December 9, 2010 at 9:07 pmIce night club? What, you think we got constant permafrost and polar bears wandering the streets of Stockholm?
I wish.

December 9, 2010 at 11:55 pmThe ephemeral quality of the place is what bugs me, at least in theory. Do the rooms eventually melt? How do they feel to the touch?
But I must applaud the design attempts, it’s a great idea and I wish more hotels would do this. However who would want to get just a room and get stuck with something like the rickroll room :))
when are we going to see another process video from Alex or Scott?

December 10, 2010 at 12:11 amI also question the same thing—but I believe they must cool the rooms.
Also you’re going to see a large process post from a project of mine on Monday. Definitely something to look forward to.

i just love those process posts because all of you guys have such attention to detail and such passion for your work :)
one other irk about this though: why don’t you use disqus on your site? or some sort of reply notification mechanism? i have so much stuff going on i usually forget to check on posts like these where i comment. skinning disqus isn’t that easy but implementing it is.

December 11, 2010 at 10:54 pmDon’t think i could fall asleep unless the lights dimmed to pretty much black.
But im a huge TRON fan! I’d rather have that look in a night club, that would seems to fit the essence better. The fact is, that type of ambience is stimulating and when im sleeping, i want the exact opposite.
Plus it would probably make my already pale body look like a jelly fish. Ladies wouldnt be a fan.
