Doves + Autolux + The Horrors + Suicide
I don’t listen to many lyrics nor do I rock out every week but these songs have been in my head, a nice little change up for a Tuesday. Some lyrics I think sound perfect with the song but once I look at them on paper they don’t look so special but here are few great moments:
“…I’ll keep you there / I’ll keep you there / So long…So long…” – Doves
My roommate brought up a good point, these guys should be bigger than Coldplay, after one listen of Rise I couldn’t agree more.
“…Shake shake / The clouds out / Shake shake / The stars down…” – Autolux
I saw these guys last week with some friends, they really brought out a diverse crowd, some frat guys, then also a few older vinyl heads, and shoegaze purists, either way they put on an amazing show, so much good guitar pedal work on the looping and echo.
Any sounds these guys make that aren’t words are great – Suicide
“…Maybe it’s not, oh who can say…” – The Horrors
The Horrors are the only band that I haven’t seen this year that I really want to see, I thing I want to know is if they can sell their look, its intense, I wonder if they break character?

September 22, 2009 at 4:58 amI’ve seen The Horrors twice live, once whilst their first album Strange House was out and another after their newest album had come out and both times they were incredible. The first time i saw them was in this tiny little venue in Manchester (England) and it was unbelievable. The sound was dark and dirty and the band were really intense with a lot of crowd surfing going on plus Farris (Lead Singer) started to climb the plumbing which was on the ceiling haha.
Overall they were amazing and a must see band. Do whatever you can to see them!.

September 22, 2009 at 5:40 amThe Doves Lost Souls album was 5 stars. I can’t believe it didn’t blow up that year. The only thing I would change about it: Make the last tune, zither, the first track. makes for a wonderful prelude to what’s coming.

September 22, 2009 at 7:05 amIf you haven’t listened to Doves much, do yourself a favor and pick of Lost Souls, and Some Cities, and maybe even The Last Broadcast. In my eyes, Doves are definitely better than Coldplay, and yes, should be bigger.
I’ve been listening to that Autolux album for years now. I’m really hoping they put out some new stuff soon. I’ve been waiting for forever.

September 22, 2009 at 12:07 pmGreat post! And Autolux, yeah! I missed their show here in Seattle a couple weeks ago. Their new single, Audience No. 2 has a great beat similar to Turnstile Blues. I’d have to say my favorite sound/lyric pairing on the album (their only album) is off of “Here Comes Everybody.”
*swell* sha la la *crash*
let’s go let’s go

September 23, 2009 at 7:28 amGreat post, great shout on Doves as well, bought Lost Souls when it first came out and you’re totally right, these guys should have blown up. Have a listen to their track ‘Darker’ off the Lost Sides album, their best in my opinion, stunning track.
