Test pressing of Tycho - Costal Brake 12"

Test pressing of Tycho - Costal Brake 12 Inch

It’s been a hectic past month, I feel like I’ve been all over the place and I’m really looking forward to getting some time at home to focus. I head out to Austin tomorrow to play The Parish Room for the final show in this recent set and then I’ll have a few weeks until Seattle to get work done.

Luckily, during this time I’ve been able to get the new Tycho 12″ wrapped up and I finally got the test pressing in (shown above). The 12″ will feature a new single — “Coastal Brake” — along with 3 remixes by Lusine, Hatchback, and Manual. It feels good to finally have all the artwork and music done for this one, the final step is ok’ing this test copy. I also did my first offset print job in a while (click for some images) as part of this project, the posters will be included with the record. Looking back, this single has been about as much work as it was to put together my last album, funny how that works.

After I get back from Austin it will be time to really focus in on finishing up this new album. For some reason whenever I go out of town, when I return my house looks like a bomb went off. I guess things just get out of hand and disorganized when I’m rushing to get packed up. I hate returning to the mess because it’s really stressful to try to work in a disorganized environment. So I finally got some free time over the past few days and reorganized the place and got the studio back in order. Hopefully now when I return it will be a smooth transition back into work.

Yeah, scored a Herman Miller Embody … It’s sort of an alien throne, but it’s sooooo comfortable/ergonomic — more on that soon.

Can’t wait to hear that new Music. Love your stuff, and the studio looks siiick. I envy that keyboard colletion/setup, and that chair is “bananas”. lol. Literally looks like a big banana peel.

Hey Scott, really looking forward to that album being completed. And I just added a Herman Miller to the studio as well. I’m kicking myself for not doing it years ago when I spent 14 hours a day slouched over drum machines and synths.

It’s funny, I kinda like the mess that’s waiting for me when I return home from a trip. It provides a sense of continuity–almost like a bookmark.

I’m also loving the keyboard shelf system and I’d like to know more about it. I too could really benefit from a solution like this. Nice digs, mate.

I built the keyboard rack out of a jerker desk, some shelves and a bunch of heavy duty drawer rails from home depot so the shelves each slide out and in. I will post some more pics of it, it really saves a lot of space and makes for easy access.

Drew-
I use Oscar Printing here in SF: http://www.oscarprinting.com/ not really a bargain, but they do top notch work.

Holy shit, Twerk commented on ISO50 blog, am I the only Twerk fan here who noticed this? Impossible!

I have that same ceiling lamp, don’t have it assembled and hanging anywhere but it’s the nicest mid-century nordic-designed light fixture I’ve ever seen.

I was just in Seattle a week and a half ago. I wish I could have seen your upcoming show there. I am super excited about the new music. I’ve been waiting a long while for this. I can’t believe posters are going to be included with the “12…amazing!

That’s a custom P Bass in the pic, it’s new school. I also have a Jazz (not pictured), it’s newer too.

Hatchback and Twerk in house.

I slept in that room for a few nights, super comfy and makes you want to sit down and make music no matter what time of day it is

Hey Scott – which is your most used synth. The dreamy nostalgic one we hear so much on your records? You should check out the Korg Polyphonic Ensemble which has a very fluid filter which can be controlled via a foot controller too. I imagine its right up your street!

Nice studio space. An article on your studio especially with your work flow/ergonomics would be really cool. Are all the synths cabled in? I’m guessing the top ones at least you have to move them down, unless there is a step ladder out of the picture. Also, what is that hanging light?

Hi Scott

Your blog is the dayli sunshine from my laptop.

But how the devel do you get so vintage colors and feeling of something so new? Is it a picture taken with an old cam or is it taken normally and finalized on the computer?
