Quantec+Lush+Theo Parrish+Eliot Lipp

Quantec
The new echochord release by Quantec is the perfect day starter, it doesn’t ask for much of your attention and evolves nicely, a great pick up for the fans that love deep and dubby.

Lush might have a headache of an album cover for their 4AD release of Spooky but the music is anything but, last night I heard De-luxe at the bar at 4am and it made my night. I love how less harsh this is compared to MBV and also, how did this band tour with Ride? must of been a pretty large contrast night after night during those tour dates.

Theo Parrish is a edit genius, plain and simple.

I went to see Bonobo and Eliot Lipp last night in New York, Eliot killed it, he played a ton on the SH-101 which reminds me of 2Pac for some reason. My favorite track still by him is Beamrider but he also played a couple other favs by others like Sorcerer, Michna and Mux Mool. I like the uniqueness of not only is it being a Live/DJ set but he also plays on top of other people’s music, its kind of a different way of thinking about an edit of a song and seeing it live nonetheless makes it kind of special to see him play every time.

Sweet post! I’m loving the album cover–mysterious, yet serene & peaceful. It pairs with track 1 (Absolute Level) perfectly.

I really dig the eclectic music selection. Being the nostalgic guy that I am however, I lean more heavily towards the 1970’s feel of The Dells’ “Get On Down”.

Again….SWEET POST!!

Hey just a little correction, the synth Lipp uses is an MS-20 by Korg. They really DO sound like something out of an older Snoop Dog track or something.

It’s funny you posted this today – My copy of Cauldron Subsidence arrived in the post today! Not sure if it’s quite as good as his singles collection Unusual Signals though.

If you like his tracks – he’s done a remix of one of my tracks, which you can pick up on CD or vinyl – more info – http://www.dfrnt.co.uk

Quantec is pretty damn amazing and I love the new album. It’s definitely got more of a tech house feel than Unusual Signals, but I would consider that a good thing. I’m so used to his heavily textured ambience that it’s a nice change of pace in my opinion. I still think his best work is the Moonstruck EP, with the Distant Space EPs coming close behind. Apparently he just recently released another album, Journey Of Mind. Has anyone heard it yet? I’ve also yet to hear The Landing, Synchrotron EP, and his other new EP, Deeper Basement. Ha, I can’t believe how much music Sven Schienhammer releases every year. It’s pretty outrageous. I always find his output to be the highest of quality though. I generally look forward to his releases in the dub techno genre, along with anything coming out on the echospace[detroit] label, as well as Modern Love. Speaking of echospace[detroit], everyone should check out the new Brock Van Wey (you may know him as Bvdub) album, White Clouds Drift On And On. The first half of the album contains his beautiful and emotional ambience, and the second half are all of the tracks remixed by Intrusion (Stephen Hitchell, Soultek, half of Echospace & cv313). It’s brilliant, and extra long for those who like to drone out :D

Yeah I love DeepChord! Rod Modell is a badass. He’s also the other half of Echospace. Do yourself a favor and scoop up his album, Incense & Black Light. There’s a great balance between beat driven and ambient tracks on there. Apparently he’s got a new single, Lama Temple, coming out on the label Millions Of Moments. Ha, and speaking of THAT label it would be wise to pick up some releases by Atheus. If you can find the Weide EP by him it’ll blow your mind. The song Quadradelay is simply amazing. It’s hard to describe how intense that track really is. It’s like the Kool-Aid Man of dub techno crashing through the walls of your house haha.

Eliot Lipp is pretty slick. I’ve been enjoying his progression. I can’t decide if I like his more traditional hip-hop work or the newer electro stuff he’s been doing the past few years. His side project, Galaxy Toobin’, with Grackle is nice and retro. It’s full of warm analog synths and old school drum machines. Some of it reminds me of older Tangerine Dream or Cluster. It’s got a little bit of that krautrock sound.

I remember watching the Deluxe video on MTV 120 Min and getting in my car to make a special trip to the record store one hour away. SO worth the trip – 4AD was the finest back then. Couldn’t go wrong with anything they were putting out.
