A huge influence and always puts me back into what mood I truly want to be in is Delsin Records, i’ve featured plenty from their catalog on the blog. Their understanding of atmosphere meets house makes me always rethink mixes/dj sets/song selections because their selections are so spot on, this Vince Watson cut is the right about of Jazz but isn’t house but its definitely electronic, in love.
I really didn’t like Diamond Rings, I heard 2 or 3 songs and it didn’t fit with me but when I heard this song yesterday it completely grabbed me, more or this. He actually sings pretty nice in this one, I like when soft amount of piano comes in.
I always check out the free mp3 iTunes is giving away, hell I need to give popular music a chance in some way. I was happy to hear some of that UK disco pop influence in this one by Metronomy, pretty solid I must say.

Betty Wants In crafted this very unique skydiving video using a GoPro. It’s exceptionally peaceful; it makes skydivers look more like they’re floating gracefully underwater as opposed to plummeting through the windy stratosphere on their way toward terminal-velocity.
I’ve never used a GoPro, or gone skydiving for that matter, and now I really want to experience both. Mission accomplished Melbourne Skydive Centre.
Really refreshing illustration work from Kilian Eng. I’m really getting an Avant Garde Magazine / 70’s-80’s illustration vibe from all this. Love the use of texture, it all feels so authentic.

I’m heading to NYC to check out F5 fest this week. It runs from April 15-16th and features presentations from various speakers. The whole thing is put on by the people from Motionographer so it certainly won’t disappoint. I was able to check it out in ’09 and was pretty blown away by the presentations, can’t wait to see what’s in store this time around. Hope to see you out there.
This week Tron Legacy came out on DVD and that soundtrack by Daft Punk was amazing. Today, Mogi Grumbles is sharing with us for the first time his take on the first Tron film, above is a teaser video, he made a tribute album of all ORIGINAL songs and his friend recut the whole movie to fit this new soundtrack to it. DOWNLOAD this new track for free for the ISO50 readers. The album will be available next week as a name your own price deal / free, i’ll link it once its available.
The Matthew Dear remixes have been rolling out for more than a 6 months now, everyone from Bear In Heaven to How To Dress Well to Mark E have had stabs at it. The one besides the the Mark E one that I keep going back to is this Breakbot one, it reminds me of a sitcom theme song that never happened because of those keys and bassline, its perfection.

Radere put together a beautiful 2 track release that came out today. The sound can be explained by maybe what you’d hear if you started to daydream away while casually holding your hand out the window of a car during a long beautiful road trip, that complete relaxation that we all look for when were working away and forgetting about what might be one of the best feelings we can experience.
Hopefully many of you are figuring out my huge crush for Peter Broderick’s music, he gives minimalism warmth and reason. When he teams up with Machinefabriek then its an ultimate piece, enjoy.
On a lighter noter, can we talk about Jam Skating? this was my whole life in middle school and it completely disappeared, anyone have any good stories or more links to only older footage?
Above is some (poorly shot on a phone, sorry) test footage from the new visuals set for the Tycho live show (next one is this Thursday, 4/7 in SF). The song is from the forthcoming album. It’s not all completely tightened up yet but you get the idea. I recently stripped down the entire live set — audio and video — and started from scratch. With the new album pretty much wrapped up I decided to rework the visuals to go with all the new material and to have everything work better with the new live band. What you’re seeing is VDMX effecting / compositing video in real-time on a Macbook Pro. Everything is being triggered / synced by another machine via MIDI over IP running Reaper which is handling all the audio duties.
I’ve been using VDMX for years now but just recently switched to Reaper as my DAW for recording and decided to use it for the live shows as well (Was never happy with Ableton. It’s a great app but it just didn’t fit my specific needs / workflow). It’s been a very freeing experience to say the least. Being able to use the same software in the studio and on stage has helped immeasurably and opened up some possibilities that didn’t exist before. Here’s hoping it all works as smoothly on Thursday (the first Tycho show to feature the new album and visuals) as it has been during rehearsals.
I also wanted to take this time to give a bit of a progress report on the new Tycho album. It feels like forever since I started, but everything has finally come together. Things took a lot of twists and turns; a lot has changed and some songs have been shelved while new ones have taken their place. But I think the album is now — finally — what I envisioned it to be when I started this process some two years ago. All that is left to do now is tie up some loose ends and complete the mixing / mastering phase and things should be ready to go. With label schedules and all that I’d imagine a release date sometime after this summer.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and support over this past couple years. You have afforded me the ability to focus on my work in a way I was never able to before, and for that I am extremely grateful.
You may remember the lust-worthy Arc Encoder that I recently posted on. Well apparently there’s an Arc4 (four encoders) and Stretta has created a beautiful video of an Arc4 performance. I was already loving the Arc after seeing the stills, but seeing it in motion takes it to another level. I love the movement of the LEDs, very reminiscent of reel-to-reel tape. Makes you feel all warm and analog-ey inside.
