Leica R3 MOT
Posted by Scott
Introduced in 1976, the Leica R3 was a compact SLR based partly on the Minolta XE (the MOT — pictured above — being the motor driven variant). These can be had on the cheap via ebay, would make a great secondary camera for film stuff.

March 27, 2009 at 3:32 amAh the power of suggestion. I just looked up ebay and found an R3 body for £190. Snapped it up immediately. I have a feeling the glass may be a little more expensive though! :)

March 29, 2009 at 7:04 pmIt’s a great way to get to play with Leica lenses on the cheap – the R lenses are much much cheaper than the M lenses. I got an R4 a few years back, and it really does feel great. It’s heavy, incredibly sturdy, and got a deep thunk when you click the shutter – like it belongs in the construction industry or the army (I would guess it does add a bit of vibration, and certainly not something to use when you need stealth – but very pleasing from a less practical perspective : )
