M.S Corely redesigned the Harry Potter Series to look like Penguin classics. They haven’t actually been published like this, but it looks like it would have been a fun project. (He also gave the Lemony Snicket series the same treatment.)

Nice one, Alex, and although the covers are beautiful on their own, IMHO they completely miss the spirit of the whole Harry Potter thing. For example, the last one reminds me of some ’60s spy novel, just too serious (sorry I cannot find a better expression right now, but close enough). They just miss the playfulness, as if to tell “this is a book for adults, too, you know”.

Corey, the original title in Great Britain was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

They changed the title when they released it in America.

I think these are extremely well done.

I have a Penguin fetish myself (particularly the Marber grid era covers) and have been messing about with doing my own new “old” covers in this style for a while now (although I’m not an illustrator, so mine are photo-based).

these are just great. …I DO judge books their covers, and these would definitely get a double-take if I saw them in a bookstore!
