Launch Day: Nosh
Posted by Alex
I don’t think I’ve slept in days. Today our company launched our first app: Nosh. Above is the promo video I made a few days ago which will give you a quick little intro. I plan to write a few process posts on this whole thing: one on the video (which was an EPIC 24 hour production), at least one on the app development, the branding…there was an insane amount of work that went into all this that I’m really excited to share. For now though I am beyond exhausted and am going to go sleep in my chair.
Check it out and let me know what you think! You can read the Techcrunch article here. I’ll write more details later

July 14, 2011 at 10:09 amLooks great. To bad it’s US only. Is there an international release date?
Alex says:
July 14, 2011 at 10:12 amYeah definitely on the docket. Working on dealing with international addresses. On the way!

July 14, 2011 at 11:32 amHey ‘Scott’- Maybe you need to get some rest too. You sound a bit edgy. Twice.
Alex- Congrats, this is great. Nice use of the Cinegrain filters!

July 14, 2011 at 11:50 amYay another terrible app where faux intellectuals with horrible taste can tell their hipster friends how good their generic dining experience was.
Great video but this app is pretty lame/boring/iphone/hipster

July 14, 2011 at 12:26 pmsounds like yelp. all the lip smacking was annoying.

July 14, 2011 at 1:32 pmeh. It looks nice enough, but you basically added another app to an already saturated concept. Nice work on the video though…had a nice Wes Anderson feel to it.

July 14, 2011 at 1:54 pmWhat’s up with the back of dude’s jacket?
Mike says:
July 14, 2011 at 2:34 pmAgree about the concept, but the app had a pretty clean design. The video is ripping off the Jason Schwartzman promo for the New Yorker app and is uncomfortably too close to Wes Anderson.

July 14, 2011 at 2:37 pmNo shit Alex – I was brainstorming this exact concept over the weekend while wishing there were a more easily digestible (no pun intended) form of Yelp that I could simply see what menu items were rated highly at the restaurant we were eating at… sitting there thinking it would be great to check into the place I’m at, see their menu, and ratings for each dish, and rate my meal as well.
Bravo on this app – you’ve saved me a ton of work. :) I definitely look forward to checking it out!

July 14, 2011 at 2:39 pmFauxhipster – how is rating a meal “hipster?”
Explain that… boggle my mind.
Mike says:
July 14, 2011 at 2:43 pmIs the desire to eat good food a hipster thing? Does that make my parents hipsters?
Jonatan says:
July 14, 2011 at 2:54 pmThe back of the guy’s jacket says “Sweden” in swedish!
Alex says:
July 14, 2011 at 2:58 pm@Jonatan – Pierre speaks French in Swedish

July 14, 2011 at 6:54 pmWell done video! Really digging the vibe and quirkiness of it all. The main guy reminds me a bit of Matt Damon, and it has to be said that the Asian “hostess” is stunning. Gonna have to try out the app. Congrats on the launch.

July 14, 2011 at 9:21 pmLove the video. That must have taken a long time since it seemed to be one shot. I like the idea for the app, it makes sense to have a simple food app. Yelp is over complicated compared to this.
I also wish people wouldn’t have arguments here about things that other people say. One of the reasons I like this blog is that it doesn’t have many people starting shit about things like phones and apps.
Michael says:
July 16, 2011 at 1:55 amNice app and really cool add! Since I know something about working for longer hours than considered reasonable, I hope it’s okay for me to point out that the word “available” seems to be spelled somewhat … odd?

July 16, 2011 at 6:22 pmif one more person says the H word i’m going to stab myself with a really obscure knife, you’ve probably never heard of it.

July 17, 2011 at 8:01 amThis is why hipsters need to die. So people can create things and that have the slightest urge to stand out and be unique and not have to endure other hipsters commenting on it on the internet decrying how hipster it is.
Nice work Alex. That was an ambitious concept that you pulled off brilliantly!
