New ISO50 Intern: Jon Wong

I’d like to introduce everyone to the new ISO50 intern, Jon Wong. Like Alex before him, Jon is a student at The Academy of Art, San Francisco. When I first met Jon I was pretty much floored by the quality of his work. Nothing he showed me gave any indication that he was still a student so I can’t imagine where he’s going to take things as he progresses and refines his style.

Above are a few examples of his work from various school projects. All of these came in book form and were masterfully executed. It took some real scrutiny to reveal that these weren’t real, published books. He even pulled off a very convincing aged paper vignette effect on the pages of his Explorers of Tomorrow hardcover. More projects should be going up soon, Jon just started photographing his work and got his Behance page up (I think he’s putting together a Cargo page right now too).

So please give a warm welcome to Jon, he will be sharing with us his inspirations and experiences as a student over the coming months.

u jelly alex? mmm, love that explorers of tomorrow book. Just found an old kids book on space which I’m going to use for a few projects. Looks a lot like it. except this one is actually 20 years old. :)

I’m sure you’re going to post some amazing work on iso50, I’m excited to see.

Some of your work has that 90’s feel, it reminds me walking into the library back then and coming across the books that have detailed designs. I dig!

@Graham – I’m definitely jelly. :P

I really hope Mr. Wong can make some sort of process post for his “Explorers of Tomorrow” book because I seriously need to know how he made that.

That is seriously everything that I’m about and if the Swissair posts here on ISO50 didn’t confirm it for me, this project lets me know that design is what I will be doing with my life. It has to be.

That’s the coolest shit I’ve ever seen.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I have to admit it is a bit surreal seeing my work alongside so many designers I have admired for so long. Scott, Alex, and the entire ISO50 team have been a huge inspiration to me, and I’m deeply honored and excited to be able to contribute to the community that has influenced so much of my development as a designer.

Jefta – Syd Mead is amazing, and I’m glad to hear he’s working on a new project with Neill Blomkamp (District 9). Can’t wait to see how that turns out.

Alex / HeadUp – saw your post on John Berkey, makes me want to revisit the project again. Really great inspiration.
