Mux Mool & Hydro74 collab on release

A great head nodding release by Mux Mool came out today with artwork done by Hydro 74, feel free to download, support and donate, enjoy.

I made the first Drum EP in 2007. At that time I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue making beats at all. I had only released one song, and despite how well “Lost and Found” had done, I just wasn’t sure if this was the path I was going on. A good friend of mine, Medium Zach from Big Quarters (link) suggested I challenge myself to make one beat every day for a week. I took him up on his challenge and did just that. 7 lo fi hip hop beats.

In 2010 I found myself in a similar funk, only this time I was traveling quite a bit. I decided that I wanted to challenge myself again. This time, I couldn’t really do 7 songs in 7 days, and I wanted to improve in quality from the songs on the first Drum EP, but stay true to the nature of beat-making challenges. So, this EP is all songs I made while on a plane.

I think the first time you ever fly it can be very inspiring. To be high above, seeing clouds and what not. But when you start flying all the time, it becomes far less so. Actually, traveling in general can be rather soul sucking if you don’t properly prepare yourself. So this is an exercise in trying to remain inspired and present at a time when there is only frustration and anxiety and crying babies and snoring people and bad smells and stale air and delays and loneliness all around you. I found that focusing myself on this project help get me through many uncomfortable layovers and redeye flights.

Hi Jakub and guys!

I’ve been great fan of this website since before it was a blog and it was one of the reason why I start getting curious on music production and eventually start producing entire songs. This place is my daily dose of good stuff that keeps me inspired to move on.

About a year and a half ago, I’ve got in touch with a good friend from high school (I’m from Brazil) on Facebook, we were both abroad so decided to go and spend 10 months in Thailand composing our first demo. It’s more traditional with vocals, versus, chorus… but surely I been influenced by many of these songs Jakub posts. It would be of extremely appreciation to hear what you think about it.

I’m not sure if it’s ok to post a comment like this, I couldn’t find another way to get in touch. All the best!

I’m just going to say this right off the bat. The artwork reminds me a bit of orange county choppers meets Judas Priest. But strangely enough, I think the bad assery of the tracks need artwork like this to go with them. In other words, all of this is absolutely 100% “MMmm MMmm minty fresh.”

If I didn’t know what Mux Mool sounded like, the album cover would put this in the System of a Down/ Slipknot genre – doesn’t fit the music…

If I didn’t know what Mux Mool sounded like, the album artwork would put this in the System of a Down/ Slipknot genre. The Skull Taste album artwork does a great job conveying the spirit of the music, this just looks like something that would be in a store that sold bongs or big truck accessories.

hydro’s action sports portfolio is hard to fuck with, but i agree that his penchant for skull illo’s is not quite as exciting visually.
