KORG iMS-20 Ipad App

This is the second synthesizer app I’ve come across this week that has a really solid interface. This app was created by KORG. Although I believe the design is strong, I am unsure of how finicky the controls would be on such a small device. I’d be curious to know if anyone used this app or ones alike it before?

There is another app floating around right now called Synthesizer 76 that is equally impressive. However I’m not sure if its available via the iTunes store yet.

Didn’t try the Korg as I’d prefer a nice VSTi anyway, but the 76 Synthesizer certainly looks badass. However, I think it’s just a design that Jonas Eriksson did as an exercise for himself. I doubt there’s any coder behind it, and that it produces any sound…

It’s a shame, because it’s the most beautiful application design I’ve seen on an iPad for a while… I guess I’ll stick with my Star Trek-esque TouchOSC and Touchable…

I bought the application the same day I bought my iPad and I really like it.

You’re right about the controls being a bit “finicky”. However, there’s a small button called “Zoom MS-20” that segments the main controls into different, scrollable sections. See screenshot here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3142674/korg-screen.PNG).

I’m nowhere near good enough at the moment to give you any examples of what can be done with it. It is quite a complicated little application but it’s extremely powerful and does seem to have some potential at making some basic tunes.

I downloaded the Korg iMS-20 a few weeks ago. It seems quite powerful, although I find the learning curve quite steep (I’m still pretty new to sequences & synths). I’m sure people with more hands-on experience with such devices would have no problem making cool stuff with this app.

The ims-20 pretty good, it is a bit complicated at first, but it is a lot of fun when you get the hang of it. Many apps like this are starting to come out, and it seems to be starting something… I think theres a band out there that just recorded a whole album using just an ipad with apps like this… haven’t heard it yet, but it does sounds intriguing.

I’ve played with Korg’s DS-10 “game” for the Nintendo DS. As you may know, it is a fairly small device, but Korg/Nintendo managed to pull it off quite well. The bottom portion is used for manipulating effects and/or using the keyboard, while the top portion is used to visualize settings, modes etc. You switch between modes and functions by hitting one of the shoulder L or R buttons and voila. My only gripe was that it can only playback 4 whole notes, so your options are somewhat limited as far as space. Otherwise, it is a fun and surprisingly addictive device to have around.

This looks fun. Just got the ReBirth App a few weeks ago, has caused me to miss a total of 9 subway stops in one week… The Korg seems much more involved.

I’m totally in love with this app, tho I have very little control of it yet. But I’ve mostly been playing around with my nanoKEYs and vst before, so not surprising.

Gonna take awhile to get the hang of it, but it’s so fun to play with, so doesn’t matter

I’ve got it and jammed a few tacks on a flight from LA to NZ. Pretty amazing with analog drums and the sequencer is killer!
