Milk Desk

The Milk desk by Holmris Hansen (the guy laying on it I presume) makes the Novanta workstation I posted last week look downright homely. They call it “the Lamborghini of desks” but I think “the Mac of desks” would be more apt. At any rate the thing is beautiful and seemingly functional with various gadgetry, compartmentry, and height adjustability (I know 2/3 of those aren’t even words). I would definitely be very happy with this as my primary desk. You can find more info and a lot of high res pics of the Milk at the product site: http://milk.dk. Also, it’s probably like $15,000. The designer’s other work at Soren Rose Studio is worth a browse as well; some very cool pictures of their space.

I recently built a new desk (sneak preview here via a terrible iPhone shot) so I had been researching for a while trying to scrounge around for materials and hardware. I ended up sourcing most of it from Ikea and cannibalized an old board room table someone gave me. I’ll post more on that once I get some proper pictures.

Love the form of this desk. It is however made of cheap materials. At $15,000 something longer lasting than MDF should be in order.

I remember when these came out; I liked it then too.

I agree with ‘mp’, expensive things are fine, but they have to hold up to their cost.

I was joking on the $15k (note the word “probably”), I couldn’t find the price. Anyways, $5901/$15,000, does it really matter? No one can afford it anyways.

I have an Ikea desk and I can’t wait to have a ceremonial burning of it on the beach. I want to build my next desk. Essentially I just want to get two filing cabinets and a nice, flat, dense, thick piece of wood and lay it over the cabinets. Maybe pour some resin over the wood. Voila desk!

Scott – check out my computer chair. If you thought your previous chair was ugly and uncomfortable….

is a tragically cool desk with its ridiculous price tag..

I would buy it in a second if I had that kinda loot. :)

more for the minimalist design than its functionality.

I think the desk is pretty rad, but it doesn’t seem like they pushed the functionality as far as it could go. What about printers, built in outlets, more book and paper storage? And not to have anything else that practical, but have the fish tank is silly. Seems like they just designed it for themselves. Unless this thing hovers, it’s not worth it.

Attention all you Milk desk fans in the UK, what I can tell you is that the Milk range will be available to buy direct from a dedicated UK gateway called ‘Give Milk’ (www.givemilk.co.uk), which will go live 1st week in July 2010.

Estimated price for the height-adjustable version will be around £1600 + VAT, which will include all mainland UK delivery and installation.

Well, to all of those who commented before me: yes, it’s pricey – but it comes down to what it does for you and what gets you up in the morning. I’m sitting at one of the height-adjustable versions right now and I have to tell you that it’s as beautiful as it was when I got it 1 year ago. :)

Price: about 3500$ (current rate, I’m from Germany)
