Stamps Of Helvetia

Collectively, the Swiss are, of course, de facto print design gods and they’re no slouches in the stamp department. These great examples are from AceJet’s Flickr, would love to have poster versions of all them. Particularly that very top one, simply amazing. If I ever got an envelope with a stamp even half-way resembling that I would frame it and never open it.

February 21, 2008 at 3:43 pmThanks Griff….much appreciated. But I am merely walking in the footsteps of the greats who truly pioneered this medium, and the Swiss had no small hand in that. It’s older design like this that truly amazes me, they didn’t have the aid of computers and they certainly didn’t have as much to look back to for inspiration. Everything they did was being invented as they did it.

February 22, 2008 at 6:21 amthis is as you said remarkable regarding the tools and sources of inspiration they had back then. but at the same time lack of such might inspire a whole other level of artistic ideas becuase they know nothing of whats new or old, out of fashion or copied from the blog next door. it must be truly amazing to be a graphic designer in such a time were there are no real rules set by opinion of the online masses. they were free to do whatever they wanted as everything they set colors and shape to was uncharted waters and areas free from the polution of art we see online now. its just pure and honest talent and inspiration!
