Braun Nizo
Posted by Scott
I had no idea Braun ever produced a camera, but here it is. And of course, it’s incredibly well designed. Honestly, if Canon would just package a modern $800 HD camcorder in this sort of form factor I would gladly pay a premium. Then again — if you can put up with film — the Nizo probably destroys any modern camera in terms of output.
The slightly intense guy using the Nizo in the last shot is director Tad Fettig. Top two shots are from this (ended) eBay auction. The Advert is from mrfoxtalbot. Many more Nizo images can be found here.
Update: Vegard sent in a nice example of the Nizo’s output which he has posted on Vimeo:

June 23, 2009 at 4:19 amI have one, but I havn’t used it in a while because of the costs of film, developing and digitalization. Therefore I am using a DOF adapter (Jag35) on a canon HV20, which indeed sort of makes it more 8mm like, minus all the scratches. Some (boring) shots done with my Nizo can be seen here:

June 23, 2009 at 5:21 amI have the Nizo 481 macro. Developing the film is impossible at this time in Europe. The only remaining factory in Switzerland closed last summer.

June 23, 2009 at 6:58 am32,49 Euros is a fucking STEAL for that camera!
I have a great Yashica Super 8 camera from the early 80s with some excellent features. Been wanting to use it for a project of some sort, but it is a bit expensive, what with film and processing. I’m waiting for the right opportunity to come along…

June 23, 2009 at 8:41 amman, why dont they make digital video cameras look like this?

Perhaps because it’s cheaper to make them out of plastic?
Either way, I agree, metal cameras, all the way!

June 23, 2009 at 1:02 pmI picked up a Nizo S56 on ebay not so long ago, cost a pretty penny to get it to the states, but it’s a looker for sure. Nothing like the beauty pictured, but I’m rather fond of it. I’ve yet to have any serious results from it as a roll with development costs about as much as the camera, but I’m bound to sometime soon.
