Graphic Designer Vs. Client
Posted by Alex
WARNING: While hilarious, the language used in the above videos is NSFW.
“I have made a mock up myself to help you in Microsoft Word. Just one other thing — seeing as I’m only going to use one of the ten designs you are going to do for me, I would like to pay 1/10th of the £3.50”
I was rolling on the ground watching this. I laugh at these videos in that “oh yeah, SO true” sort of way, but am not really comparing it to any of my past jobs. It’s almost as if this sort of client relationship is understood on some sort of primal level for designers. You hear enough stories and it may as well have happened to you. Anyway, this is hilarious; the automated-voice delivery is perfectly weird. The way they say “Microsoft Word” is fantastic.

October 15, 2009 at 3:14 amThat’s a truly awesome find. I think you get these types of clients in the really early days of one’s career. And hopefully you learn to avoid them later on. And, of course, deal with those anger issues :)

October 15, 2009 at 4:01 amThis is HILARIOUS. Too bad the designer is depicted as such a pissed off, aggressive person, but then again, the client certainly looked for it! :D

October 15, 2009 at 4:03 amNotice, by the way, that the designer STILL performs the job… That pretty much shows the situation for most of us :D

October 15, 2009 at 5:59 amI’ve experienced every one of these situations. This hits too close to home. Brilliant.

October 15, 2009 at 6:24 amso funny. i pretty much expect everyone i do any work for to be completely retarded any more. while that sounds sort of depressing i guess it gives me a better attitude towards their retardation.

October 15, 2009 at 8:44 amJesus F#(king Christ, I think this could be so very F#(king funny without all of the cussing, you God Damned C*nt Faced Bastard… I am by no means against a well placed F-word and I agree that cursing could be appropriate towards the end of each clip, but come on, it serves no purpose, just like me calling you a God Damned C*nt Faced Bastard in this comment.

October 15, 2009 at 9:13 amWhat I find interesting is that there are so many people on here commenting about how they think this is funny — but then have comments on how to make it better (i.e., less profanity, managing anger issues, etc). To those people, I say: You’re as bad as the stupid fucking client the creator of this video is making fun of. Go fuck yourselves, you retarded douchebags. If you want to alter something that is already perfect, make your own mutherfucking video.
Kurt Lorenz says:
October 15, 2009 at 9:24 amPerfect. Funny. So brilliant. I can’t believe how amazing this is. This is probably the best video ever created. I LMFAO, twice. I think I’m gonna go watch it again it’s so perfect. I just can’t stop thinking about how wonderful this video is. It really has transformed my world view. Whoever created this is a GENIUS. I really like it.

October 15, 2009 at 9:52 amYou see a lot of this kind of trope in funny design vids, but this is the first one I’ve seen that so beautifully captures the designer’s internal dialogue. Love it. I may forward to my clients!

October 15, 2009 at 10:26 amOh man! That was great.
The whole bit about the newspaper ad actually happened to me a couple weeks ago, almost word for word.
“You’re the designer, come up with something.” – LMAO, so true.

October 15, 2009 at 12:45 pmsometimes the directer of design where i work actually asks shit like this of me, and i just stare in disbelief.

October 15, 2009 at 1:12 pmthese are so horrible.
poor production value and the voices make me want to take them to the trash compactor.
the phrases are somewhat common designer issues but the realization is plain crap

October 15, 2009 at 8:12 pmI always somehow scare off idiots like that with my SUPER EXPENSIVE ($1000) websites. But I have ran into people like that… Soooooo annoying!

if you watch until the end you’ll see that they were done in Xtra-Normal, this new text to speech/video thing that’s become sort of a meme. They’re supposed to be horrible, that’s the whole point.
The best xtranormal I’ve ever seen though is the Sonar 8.5 video: http://bit.ly/txWaf

October 16, 2009 at 11:02 amsorry, normally posts here are always on point.
this, however, was not. I saw it a few weeks back and it was poorly produced, cliche, and most importantly, the client vs. designer thing is dead. Let’s all get past it. Everyone’s been there before, nothing’s changing, and clients pay our salaries/invoices/whatever. The mentality has to change.

see my comment above (#21)….it’s supposed to be horrible, it’s this free service that turns a text file into a video. you literally just type up a text file and upload it and it makes a video out of it.
as for the content, yeah, but it’s still good for a laugh. I think this was more about comedy than any big statement.

October 20, 2009 at 4:51 amGreat! Love the ‘Comic Sans’ font bit, had a client a few months ago who wanted the website font changed to this. As always the client knows best.

October 21, 2009 at 8:46 amLM f* AO yeah, I made this 40 page full color brochure in excel and we did this amazing cover in power point, so we just need you to add a little of your magic … so we can get it over to the printer within the hour. But fist we just need to run it by our review committee. This should only take a few minutes of your time. And make sure all the pictures are cropped and sized the same, and we really to have the background changed on them, to a nice blue sky. But that’s just two mouse clicks for you……..
