Flying Lotus Fieldlines Application

Posted by Jakub

Many of you probably may have heard or have bought the new Flying LotusCosmogramma LP that came out this Tuesday. Along with the launch Flying Lotus / Warp have developed an application for the PC and Mac called Fieldlines which you can download for free and try out:

“Cosmogramma Fieldlines is a free augmented reality application to celebrate the imminent release of the new Flying Lotus album ‘Cosmogramma’. It can be controlled with your webcam or mouse.

Cosmogramma Fieldlines was developed by Aaron Meyers with sound design by Flying Lotus and harp by Rebekah Raff. Based on the artwork by Leigh J. McCloskey.”

I’m so happy to hear that Recoiled is out on the LP, i’ve heard this songs ending sped up in his live sets and I always got wide eyed tried pulled out my hair it was that good each time.

Fehlmann+Flying Lotus+Paul White+The Xx

Posted by Jakub

Kompakt’s Thomas Fehlmann has a new LP coming out on March 29th called Gute Luft, Fehlmann has kept himself busy in recent years doing more melodic ambient work with delightful soft kicks which makes him a pretty diverse creative since doing The Orb and his Dub material on Lowflow which I loved.

Here it is if you haven’t heard it: Flying Lotus with Thom Yorke, I think it gets better with every listen!

Another album that’s still kind of far away is Paul White & The Purple Brain which is slated for June, it is Paul White’s second album that sounds like it will touch on some 60’s psychedelic rock with some beats keeping it Paul White style.

I’m not sure if this song is off the tour only 7 inch from The Xx merch booth but its one of my favorite guitar parts by them.

Daedelus vs. Powershot SD780

Posted by Scott

I just got home from Portland after playing the Emrg-n-See festival on Sunday night. Thanks to everyone who made it out, I had a great time playing and the energy was amazing. I had the honor of sharing the stage with two artists I have a lot of respect for: Flying Lotus and Daedelus. Luckily I brought my little Canon SD780 Elf and in between setting up my gear backstage, I was able to catch a little bit of Daedelus’ set on video (Sorry they’re so short, time was really tight).

The SD780 really is amazing for it’s size; it cranks out HD and takes some great still shots too. If course, it’s not the greatest in low light situations so take the above examples with a grain of salt. I will post some daylight stuff this week that show it’s real capabilities.

Flying Lotus – Live At Plastic People

Flying Lotus - Saccenti photography
While Scott was in New York for F5 we got a chance to meet up with Tom Croose, Eliot Lipp, Mux Mool and head over to see Kode 9 and Flying Lotus play live at his new monthly in New York called Brainfeeder which is held at Club Love. I wish I could explain the energy and sound in that room and the heat too but maybe what’s best is if I post this live set of Flying Lotus from Plastic People so you can get a taste. The mix starts really becoming proper right around the 12 minute mark and on, if anyone has a track ID for the first song i’d greatly appreciate it because i’ve been pulling my hair out trying to find out.

Ghostly Swim Official Release CD/Digital

Posted by Jakub

Ghostly Swim compilationWe have written about this release before here with the Tycho free single and here with a bit more information about the project, now after the free download its officially out in digital retail stores with an exclusive Solvent track and available in physical CD format. Here is what Ghostly International had to say about the release thats #5 on iTunes Electronic charts – “Cartoon Network’s genre-defying [Adult Swim] programming rearranges comedy’s basic building blocks into oddities like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!; Ghostly International’s artists scramble the language of dance and pop music into something strange and artful. It was only a matter of time before the two found each other and made adorably freakish babies.

The Ghostly Swim compilation is a collaboration between Ghostly International and [Adult Swim], a 20-track mix (curated by label founder Sam Valenti IV) of tracks from Ghostly’s avant-pop mainstays like Matthew Dear, Michna, and School of Seven Bells, alongside kindred spirits like Milosh, FLYamSAM, and Mux Mool. Ghostly Swim’s best tracks embody the label’s trademark mix of playful darkness and irreverence – Deastro’s lurching robot-rock anthem “Light Powered,” The Chap’s bizarro-world pop hit “Carlos Walter Wendy Stanley,” Michna’s slinky-smooth “Triple Chrome Dipped” – making them an ideal accompaniment to, say, pissing in your pants over Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.

Ghostly Swim was initially released in early 2008 as an exclusive free download on [Adult Swim]’s website. Now, the groundbreaking compilation is available both on iTunes and as a limited-edition CD (available only through the Ghostly Store, free with a purchase of $20 or more), and includes a bonus track: Solvent’s banging cover of Madonna’s “Hung Up.””
