The new Tycho single / b-side entitled "Adrift / From Home" will be out next Tuesday, May 27th, 2008. This marks my second release with Ghostly International leading up to the full album scheduled for next year. This single will be available exclusively through iTunes for the first month, and at all other online retailers thereafter. While Adrift is a brand new, unreleased track, some of you may notice that From Home was originally released as part of the Past is Prologue album on Merck. This is because as part of this series of singles, I’ve decided to include the extra tracks which were included on the Merck version of Sunrise Projector (renamed Past is Prologue) so that they are available individually for people who bought the original version of the album and missed out on the new material. I’ve posted a couple clips of the songs below, enjoy.
On a design note, this of course represents new ISO50 work. It’s the first album cover I’ve done in a while and I really enjoyed the process this time around. I wanted to evoke the feeling of a 45 record from the heyday of singles and go with a really reserved, minimal type treatment. It’s also meant to carry over the circle concept from the last single. Anyways, on to the music:
Alexander Harrison sent in these shots he took of of the Drake show in Toronto. Once again, thanks to everyone who came out, it was a great night and I really enjoyed playing in Toronto. Hopefully I’ll be back up that way soon.
Just got home tonight and will be sorting through some of the shots from the trip, I’ll be posting them up soon. Toronto was a very interesting city; aesthetically it struck me as being somewhere in between New York and Chicago with a bit of Amsterdam thrown in. It seemed really culturally rich, wish I could have spent some more time to really get to know the place. Soon enough.
The Ghostly Swim compilation featuring the new Tycho single Cascade [Live Version] is now available for free download at the Adult Swim site. This new track is, as the name implies, a live mix of a new song which will be included on the next full length Tycho release. There’s a flash player you can embed on your site which includes the Tycho track, you can get the code at the Ghostly Swim site.
The Drake show last night was a lot of fun; packed house, great crowd. Thanks to everyone for coming out and thanks to the Drake and Newelectronic Productions for hosting me. Above is the only shot I have at the moment, it’s from Sgraffio*’s Flickr. There were a couple photographers there last night, I will post their shots once I get them back.
Alex Harrison was also kind enough to bring his crew and film the whole thing so a live video from the night will be coming out in the near future.
Just a quick reminder: I’ll be playing live @ the Drake in Toronto tonight. Full live visuals on multiple screens. We’ll be taping this for the next album supplement so should be a good one. It’s an early show; I’ll be going on around 10pm.

Leaving early a.m. this morning so spent the night getting prepped and packed for Toronto. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ll be speaking at FITC and playing a couplelive shows. For the live stuff I’ll be doing an all new visuals set using a new piece of software I’ve completely fallen in love with. It’s the most enjoyable app I’ve come across, maybe ever. It’s a modular video app called VDMX and it blows the doors off anything I’ve ever used for the purposes of live video. You can essentially design the way it works to your liking, you design the interface and the functionality. There’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get over that you start to realize how powerful it can be. At $300 it’s not super cheap, but considering the feature set and functionality it’s well worth it. It can do quartz composer effects and blending modes all in real-time.
I am using a Novation Remote SL and footpedals to control most of the parameters of the video portion, and a the same Novation with split parameters to control another laptop running Ableton Live. I’m also routing a set of audio outputs from Live to VDMX which then analyzes the incoming sound and modulates various parameters based on the amplitude of selected frequency ranges. Somehow VDMX is able to do this all in real time, I’m still not quite sure how.
There’s a show Saturday and Sunday night, I’m hoping to video tape the show on Sunday night at the Drake but it remains to be seen if we can track down someone to tape it on short notice. If you or anyone you know has proper video equipment and some skills to go along with it, let me know.
The next Tycho single drops April 21st, 2008 as part of the Ghostly International / Adult Swim compilation Ghostly Swim. The single is a live version of a working title from the forthcoming album. The Ghostly Swim compilation will be available as a free download from the Adult Swim website. The comp will feature the Tycho single along with tracks by other Ghostly artists; should be a great collection based on what I’ve heard of the lineup.
CORRECTION! So apparently this was *not* designed by Philistine (although I still love his work). I was misinformed and now am uninformed….So just waiting on the proper channels to fill me in on who designed this. I’ll let you know as soon as I do. Below it is a teaser video for the release featuring some cool branding work for the compilation.
