So we all download and save images of items, graphics and photos from the internet daily and some of the time you have no idea where to give credit besides maybe the guy that posted it first or second randomly on a blog. I‘d like to get some answers on a few of these but also just post some interesting pieces that we come across that might have been sitting on our drives for awhile that are go to for inspiration or just found randomly on a forum with no info attached and just look great. Either way hopefully the point that gets across here is that they are inspiring in some sort of way to you as well.
For the 3 images up here: the first one I have a feeling is Will Calcutt’s who takes photos for Ghostly International but I have no proof either way it’s an intense shot, nothing like the average landscape shots you see these days. The second one I just wanted to know what is going on, is this a operator jail? The third one I like only in a Royksopp cute kinda of way, a bit amateur in parts and wears his influences on his sleeve and it feels abit unfinished but I enjoy the colors and shapes of the “mum like” mountains.
Aaron Draplin (who’s blog is always an excellent source of inspiration) finds gold on the road during “The World’s Longest Yardsale”. I’ll let Draplin explain it in his own words:

Since it’s Labor Day tomorrow I’ll be staying out of the studio and trying to enjoy what’s supposed to be a beautiful day here in San Francisco. So, on a completely unrelated note I thought I’d post these nested Klein Bottles because I’ve had the pictures laying on my desktop for months and never found a good reason use them. I built something like the second one out of clay back in ceramics class; it was the ugliest thing ever, exploded in the kiln, and I got an F. Happy Labor Day…
This is one of a series of glass Klein bottles made by Alan Bennett. It consists of three Klein bottles, one inside another. A Klein bottle is a surface which has no edges, no outside or inside and cannot properly be constructed in three dimensions. In the series Alan Bennett made Klein bottles analogous to Mobius strips with odd numbers of twists greater than one.

The first one has to be my favorite album cover of all time but only when someone takes a photo of the vinyl sleeve and it catches this pearly yet worn look and then a slight hue of yellow over the whole thing. Who ever thought of the idea of simply just photographing this white helmet but having that mirrored visor wins an award in my book.
I remember finding this NASA illustration and it inspiring me a lot for awhile for Moodgadget material, I could of gone without the blue and orange crayon background.
I am pretty sure this “cubes on a waterfall” was an advertisement and if it was i’ll buy whatever they’re selling…especially the cubes.

This first one with the polaroid packaging i’ve just always wanted to know if it was real, I mean the wear might just be too good to be true and the simplicity is just perfect, anyone know if this was an actual packaging for polaroid? if it is i’m going to find a few on ebay so I can just have the box.
If you know me I have a huge fear of large ships, just the sight of them freaks me out but its not the case here, this boat/plane is gorgeous, its like a fantasy vehicle and its soo perfect with the glass dome at the top.
Klopfer Holzhandel seems to be some kind of German company, who ever branded this company my hats off to them, i’m not sure if this is the logo or just a brochure/flyer, either way its eye catching every time I scroll by it.
Here is the second installment of Images From Where? and By Who? where we try to figure out who did the original design, photograph or product and if that becomes too easy then its hopefully just a nice small collection of images that might be inspiring for your day of creating.
The first image I just found yesterday and it had nothing attached and the link was generic. I would love to know if these are miniature or full size because i’d save up and buy that small brown one on the right.
The second image i’ve shown Scott once and told him if I could ever have any special power it would be being able to draw the way this car is drawn, incredible work in my opinion.
The third image is just of this generic floppy disc sleeve, you see I use to be a buyer sometimes for a few thrift stores back in Michigan and i’d spend a lot of time looking for a lot of things that looked exactly like this, to most it looks like whatever 80’s junk but i’d probably frame it.

For the 3 images up here: the first one we’ve tried to replicate for an album cover for Shigeto, the second one always grabbed me and made want to put blurry dust spots on everything, the third one is perfect looking, if you could see it on a large screen it’s just stunning in detail, i wish i would illustrate like that, reminds me of Scott’s post a few weeks ago with the space colony.
Maybe while you rack your brain looking for who we should give credit to for doing certain designs you can listen to one of my favorite songs by someone I can’t believe we haven’t posted about but its good because we can spotlight him here on this post.
Polish designer Jacek Utko on the impending doom of the printed newspaper, and how good design could turn things around. His statistics certainly are convincing, and I hope for the sake of my morning routine that he’s right. I would really hate to see the printed edition become extinct. Watch the TED version here.
He mentions it briefly, but when he says “this is the new role of the designer: to be in the process from the very beginning to the very end”, that is the biggest take away for me. The role of the designer is definitely changing, and our value now has a lot more to do with how we think than what we can do with a blank page.
