Astrid Stavro / Barcelona Studio
Posted by Alex
A couple pieces from the wonderful Astrid Stavro. The top image was the poster for Maria Canals International Piano Competition in 2007, and the bottom is from the Forum Laus Europe in 2006. I’ve seen some of her other work circulating on the blogs recently, but I prefer these older posters for their refined typography.
I also enjoyed this quote they have up on their website: “Small design companies produce good work, large ones produce shit work.” (Jonathan Barnbrook). Not sure if I agree completely (because I just don’t know, not because I have evidence to the contrary), but the work coming out of Astrid’s studio certainly validates the claim.

Beautiful work, if only that portfolio were easier to navigate! :-(
I absolutely love layouts like that first one, no matter how often I see it.

I agree, the portfolio design is very unusual; not easy to navigate at all! I gave up clicking that little ‘+’ and just started entering random numbers in the address field.. worked pretty well actually.

I love the portfolio. The forst poster is awesome! Nice choice.
I think on some levels I have to agree with the statement on small/large design companies. Well at least half the time anyway. Just drawing this from from personal experience along with watching the goings on in the industry.
Small agencies/teams and freelancers seem to have a lot more passion and commitment to the work that they are doing.
