As always – superb!.
I have a question, what programs do you use to make music? or what programs do you recommend to that task?

dang, can’t wait for a new album. The new single sounds great. Your music is a soundtrack to my life. There’s nothing more inspiring then sitting on the train and listening to your music. Thanks for all the great mornings you give me on my way to uni!

With “Daydream” you have convinced me. I love the “older” songs but “Daydream” is more than just a reason to buy your music. I can*t wait to hear your music on a sunny afternoon while I am drawing.

So… When can we expect Daydream on vinyl?
Do I see a third female on the cover?

No more questions, great choons as always!

Yeah, me too.
I see a man in a powdered wig looking at me at the lower left of the image and an old women in a shawl in the upper right.
Who are these people?

Dear Scott Hansen,

sorry, but your new cd and your new single are horrorable… all these neverending “wiuwius” are destroy your beautiful songs. take an example on your first cd called “sunrise projector”. It’s so sad that you put this wonderful cd out of your store.

Greetings from Germany

Beautiful track! I went this Saturday to the Bjork concert in Guadalajara, MX and I saw someone wearing an “ursine 2” t-shirt. Do you have those for skinny women?

also thanks for mentioning the typographic elements on your further posts, they’ve been very helpful. Keep up the amazing blog and the stunning graphic/sonic design.

Wonderful. Your music Scott, will always remind me of this very happy time in my life–when I have the joy to live with close friends who share each others burdens, and encourage one another to explore and enjoy life. Thank you for giving this fleeting but beautiful moment such a fitting soundtrack. Ill listen to these albums, and savor those memories until I’m an old man.

your work sounds rich with all the right sounds. but i have to ask the question.

why do you continue to rip off the board of canada?

its one thing to reference and be inspired. but a whole other thing to rip off.

i hear rip off when i hear your work. not original.

sorry i had to ask the question.

not trying to hurt your feelings, just trying to voice mine.

hey Scott,

just wanted to say how great I think “The Daydream” is. It’s such a perfect working song. I found myself putting it on repeat as I worked because it is so mellow and relaxing.
Great work!

There are lots of artists out there that have an overlapping / similar sound at times – BOC, Kettel, Esem, Chris Willits, Ochre, Tycho, Flutterspot, Lusine (sometimes). I wouldn’t say that any of it is ripping anything else off though. Influenced by, but not a rip.

Great work on the single! Sounds different than most of your other tracks, but in a good way. It has more of a ‘band’ vibe to it I guess?? Digging the guitar arp too.

BOC is amazing, and so is Tycho. Why aren’t you able to appreciate both of these talented artists and not criticize such a beautiful IDM/Ambient/Downtempo art-form? I myself can hear many Boards of Canada influences in Scott’s work, and as well in my own. (He’s not “RIPPING”) When an artist influences & inspires other artists, they are actually accomplishing something in this world. We should embrace this! Try not to be so negative when you notice something like this, and appreciate it. Sorry everyone, I’m probably more offended than Scott was over the few negative comments. I just stand up for the things I love.

David Elsewhere says:

Tycho may have been influenced by BOC but he’s doing something with his own flavor. I feel it’s just as beautiful and in many instances more easily listenable than BOC… and I’m a long time BOC fan.

Just because any electronic artist chooses to make his sound analogish and nostalgic doesn’t mean he ripping BOC. Why should BOC have a monopoly on this sound? They might have been one of the originals in this genre but with all the old school synths available it’s no wonder a lot of electronic musicians sound similar.

I’d love to hear more artist with this sound. Boards rarely releases albums, so why not support and praise other artists that are similar, instead of hating on them? The negative posts on here really piss me off.

Quoting David Elsewhere:
“I’d love to hear more artist with this sound. Boards rarely releases albums, so why not support and praise other artists that are similar, instead of hating on them?”

Exactly!! Its like saying there can only be one punk band… sounds kinda silly doesn’t it.

Such a great song, Scott. Sounds like it should be used as the backing to one of CSI’s lab montage scenes!

That song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. The guitar also contributes a perfect touch.
I love listening to Tycho CD’s when alone, I simply feel free
You did a great work again. Congratulations Scott!

I like your music, but it’s definitely a Boards of Canada rip-off. Sorry, dude. “Past is Prologue” kinda pisses me off in spots. I feel like you should be paying royalties to BOC! You really need to take what you have right now, which is a good foundation, and really make it uniquely your own. Oh, and drop the female vocals …. cheesy.

If you have any humility you’ll stop charging money for this cheap imitation.

square.wav says:

As a musician, you offend me with your Boards of Canada imitations. It must be hard ripping off other peoples ideas… same with your “retro” designs. You can fool the ignorant, but those in the know can see right through your garbage.

Would the next person with biting criticisms please link to their own “original” works?

Thanks for the good work, Mr. Hansen.

From my experience, I would advise against posting portfolios of work online to the public, unless you have some way of getting something for it (eg. a shop site like Scott has). And be sure to date & mark everything. :)

I think that recognition or acknowledgement of influences can be appropriate. As Mr Lordi said in a recent interview, without KISS there would not have been Lordi. I’m guessing that is what some of these posters (some who sound quite angry) are reacting to – a perceived theft or pretence.

Just something to think about.

Wow!! – tycho and the design of the whole thing is brilliant- yea, it bears a striking similarity to BOC, but I dont care – tycho actually offers more for his fans than BOC in a way, with the clothing, design, albums and even live shows!
