Top 10 Albums of 2012

Posted by Jakub

10. Actress – R.I.P. (Honest Jon’s Records)

9. CFCF – Exercises (Paper Bag Records)

8. Holy Other – Held (Tri Angle)

Hear the rest after the break

7. Grimes – Visions (4AD)

6. DIIV – Oshin (Captured Tracks)

5. Tame Impala – Lonerism (Modular)

4. John Maus – A Collection of Rarities and Previous Unreleased Material (Ribbon Music)

3. Fort Romeau – Kingdoms (100% Silk)

2. Tanlines – Mixed Emotions (True Panther Sounds)

1. Trust – TRST (Arts & Crafts Productions)

I’ll keep it short and I suggest you list to it using the link below. TRUST from February makes it as my #1 album, I get soo eager to go back to it that it helped make by decision easy. Tanlines almost took the spot but it just fell short. John Maus and Fort Romeau pretty much share #3 and Tame Impala and DIIV pair up together and keep my love for rock alive. Grimes and Holy Other kept it dark and weird but most importantly interesting while CFCF and Actress pushed boundaries when it came to their specific genres.

There are so many versions of “Molly.” Love that album but left it off my “2012 favorites” list because most of the songs are so old.

If you like Fort Romeau, you might really like Jensen Sportag. Their Pure Wet E.P. is so good. I think they kick that whole sound up several notches.

@HAZYJANE I like Jensen Sportag, I’ve featured them a few times. Fort Romeau reminds me of a lot of the early Detroit Tech House I enjoyed.

@LILY because I just didnt get into it that much sadly, will retry too

@AYMERIC Haven’t checked that out, good call

@CAPTCHA I’ll see if Scott has something up his sleeve

Holy Other and Trust have been on repeat for days. Thanks! Awesome list.

I know Kindred was an EP, but doesn’t it deserve some honorable mention? Twin Shadow – “Confess” and Lorn – “Ask the Dust” were also 2012 standouts in my mind.

Always look forward to the best-of list, Jakub. I didn’t give Trust a big chance at first, but I know now I need to go back for a second pass.

I got my favorites here
and my favorite tracks on spotify here.

Cheers and here’s to another dope year in music!

Great list! I also enjoyed many of your honorable mentions. Check out the Voices From The Lake album if you haven’t already: more techno but its #1 on my list. Cheers!

@ DIAGRAF, agreed that nel and donato dozzy created one of the albums that shaped this year, if you liked voices from the lake check out Deepchord presents: Echospace (Silent World motion picture soundtrack) and you will love “shamans path” by Dino Sabatini!

My honorable mention for this year would def. be Lee Gambles “Diversions”

thanks for taking the time and sharing, been checking out iso50 for years now and its the only site other than nodata i see myself coming back everyweek for gems of wisdom and inspiration, keep going and have a great year!
