Instagram Concept Camera

The Instagram Socialmatic camera. It’s only a concept, but it’s still pretty cool. Antonio De Rosa created this concept out of curiosity over Facebook’s massive purchase of Instagram. Check out some of the desired features below, but first let’s connect.

Socialmatic is the first Instagram photo camera and it would even have its own OS called InstaOS. Here are some of the hoped for features:
– 16 GB mass storage
– Wifi and Bluetooth
– 4:3 touchscreen
– 2 main lenses: first for capture, second for 3D filters, webcam applications and QR Code capturing
– Optical zoom
– LED Flash
– Internal printer to make your Instagram photos real
– Paper cartridge with Instagram Paper Sheets
– Dedicated 4 colors ink tanks
– InstaOS 1.0, the operating system built by Facebook and Instagram

If you want you can print it directly on Instagram Paper Sheets, thanks to the internal printer. Also every Instagram photo printed from the camera has the persons Instagram username and a QR code pointing to their Instagram account.

I dig the idea … but, I don’t like that it resembles an iPhone. I dislike the the metal parameter; it’s slippery. It’s a concept – get crazy with the design. Don’t imitate.

The idea is a lot of fun, and captures the spirit of Instagram. The internal printer seems very impractical, but that’s ok… we’re allowed to dream!

In the end I’d stick with my iPhone, but this would certainly be a tempting purchase to make.

Why the hell it has the design of an iPhone? C’mon people, WAKE UP! iPhone design is not the best design ever created.

I think it’s a bit silly. Probably fun to concept out, but it seems very pointless to me.

1. I have a cell phone that I can use to take photos, manipulate with instagram and other photo apps, post to Flickr, social networking sites, etc.
2. I also have two other digital cameras already.
3. If I really want to print instagram photos, there are numerous ways to do that.
4. They REALLY expect people to take photos, print them, and stick them to an object near the place they took the photos?
5. How is that going to fit in my pocket?
6.

I for one think an iPhone homage is kind of necessary in an Instagram concept camera. You don’t see obnoxious numbers of design students filling their Tumblrs with Instagram photos they took on their Blackberries…

One of the things I like about Instagram is shooting incognito with my iPhone. Specifically with shooting random people on the street. Pulling this thing out while riding the subway doesn’t appeal to me.

I agree with Brian. I’m not sure how a homage to the iPhone slipped passed all those ragging on it. It’s a free app that originated on iPhone. Why not pay homage to it? I think it is a cool new take on the polaroid camera with a concept that is still growing in size. I bet it will make money if it is put into production (which is probably one of the biggest goals).

Agree with Brian Park above, the iPhone resemblance works since it was the original home of Insta. Love this concept, would love to see it come to fruition. Kickstart it up!!

Hey Scott, I absolutely LOVE your music because it launches me into daydreams and it’s so soothing; it always leaves me so relaxed. I also read your page on design and I was browsing through some of your stuff, I must say you are very talented. I definitely feel a connection between your unique style of design and music. They produce the same calming/balanced vibe. Keep it up, You’re awesome!

you have gained yet another fan :)

Count me in with Brian & co: I think the iPhone attributes in the design are a nice hat tip to the heritage of Instagram. Sure is a fun design exercise :)

What a lovely idea. I’d be tempted even if it was only an instagram printer, like a pogo that worked with the iPhone.

Would a printing function be impractical? Probably.

If you could actually pull it off would it be the greatest thing, ever? YES.

Guess it’s unlikely you could squeeze a printer in that little space, i’d accept to have a plug-in appendix to carry around if a device like that was made.
