Nice prizes. The post sticks out for me is Alex’s Playoboy redesign. It’s really good (and brave) to see the whole process from start to finish.

I have to say the Dark Side Of The Lens as well. It inspired me to try more daring things with my 5D Mark II and so far it’s paid off. : )

I really enjoyed The Dark Side of the Lens. I work alot with stills and fixed layouts in different formats and I find video very inspiring – I´m not a surfer at all – but very impressed with people who master video as art.

I´d put a “18 on my wishlist!

I also liked the tycho live band photos from April.

I have to pick ONE? This is a one of the most consistently quality blogs on the Internet, any pick is going to be arbitrary. Fine, arbitrary it is.

Favorite post this year is the look at Kim Høltermand’s Tuve series of photographs. Absolutely breathtaking, and I never would’ve seen’em without ISO50.

Scary to think how I would react to it under the influence.,

Dark Side of the Lens – truly inspiring to do what you do because you love doing it, not because it makes you money or gives you status. Taking hold and creating your own experience and being artistic in the process; simply brilliant.

Best post this year was the Burning Man photos. Really made me want to get out there at some point. And it’s always refreshing to see some awesome work put together with such simple tools like a point n click camera. Puts all the hype of all the new gear behind you for a little bit.

Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man. It actually inspired me to go out and update my 4 year old cheap point-and-shoot. I ended up going with a Canon S95 and I love it.

I love seeing what ya’ll dig up and share, one of my favorites being the old Princeton 1966 photos.
It’s great to seeing new work, but you can’t beat finding something great that has been forgotten.

Chris Stevens says:

One of my favorite posts this year was your Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man article. Because of the beautiful imagery and later you comment about your process which I found very informative. So much so that I’ve kept the article bookmarked.

I hope that if I already have both the ISO50 and Tycho facebook pages ‘Liked’ that I’m still counted for those entries =)

My favorite thing while working is to put on the newest ISO50 playlist. It uplifts my day every time.

But if I had to pick one thing, the Terrabyte studio print is the best.

The “YoursTruly” post which introduced me to some great music. Without that post I would have missed out on “The Morning Benders”, Toro Y Moi, Baths, honestly to many to name. That and the MIDIBOX with the ol’skool arcade buttons. Keep it up!

My favorite post was the one about making cool pics with an Iphone. The essence of the post was that it’s all about how to use light. Very true!

Now with this sais, I really hope to win the snowboard :) I would kick-ass while doing 180′s in the french alps!

Cheers!

Hmmmm. Favorite post of the past year. I would have to say the “Tycho Album Progress” post was my favorite of all, for a few reasons.

First of all, the photos were crazy inspirational…seeing the process of electronic music being made in such a tangible, tactile way made a huge impact on me.

Second, the honesty of the prose was excellent. So many artists are like, “I’m the G.O.A.T., follow me, get up on my level” with their whack _ss youtube videos and whatnot, but here is a dude making hot jawns (excuse the Philly slang) but who is crazy humble about the anxiety of creating an organized body of work and the struggle with the process. Loved it.

Third, the photos again…your studio is the ish.

There were a lot of other great posts…the ‘creative block’ post, the nofomo post and a few others that were very good, but this one is my favorite.

Peace + Respect,

JC

One of my favorites was undoubtedly Dark Side of the Lens, definitely an inspiration to an aspiring videographer.

And any of the posts about architecture (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stared at the photos of that house in the Alps, and then spent hours perusing various architecture firm websites… while I’m out in LA in the spring, I plan on pitching an idea about a show that focuses on similar architecture to HGTV, Travel, Discovery, and a few other networks / production companies).

No Fear of Missing Out // Process Post

I get a lot out of the precess post you guys do. Being pretty fresh out of college and getting a very ” lacking ” college education from my school. Its nice to read up on stuff like this that should have been referenced in my school’s teachings.

Love it – Can’t get enough of it

Point concept by Beamer… excellent photojournalism. My absolute favorites, though are your profiles of vintage analog synthesizers.

Beautiful, intriguing, and timeless… while being bulky, confusing, and clearly stuck in time.

73

Sarah says:

Favorite post of this past year (that I can remember) was definitely “Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures,” though an easy way to outdo that one would be to release a sneak-peek of up and coming Tycho/ISO50 material…

Every year is always ripe with great posts, this year was no exception – I loved the Overcoming Creative Block, Tycho Album Progress, etc. – but I must say that my favorite post was the announcement of the Tycho show in NYC this past September. I still have that soundboard-audience matrix tape of the show, I’ll have to get you the raw version while I continue playing with it!

The playlists are always great posts, but I would have to say the Burning Man post was the most memorable to me. Until I saw those photos, I always kinda scoffed at the whole Burning Man schtick like I’d scoff at a Widespread Panic 15 minute guitar solo. Your photos from that set totally changed my perspective and painted a much different picture for me. If that ain’t art, I don’t know what is. Thanks.

I loved your post about Burning Man – it was my first burn this year as well and I thought your images were incredible and I actually took a photo of the SAME person – the man in the short-shorts and the short boots. What are the odds of that? Only at Burning Man. ;)

Thanks! Great contest.

The GAP logo redesign was the best as it proved your worth from a pop culture perspective.

What started as a blog you would post information, music, etc. to has turned into a cultural epicenter for art, design and the like; it’s been great to see the growth and to grow with you Scott!

I’ve gotta say “Brand Talk: J. Crew”

I love getting insight into brands and companies, and J Crew is one that I never really gave any though to before.

Also, I got into a big discussion with a prof about SwissAir when he saw me looking at that post.

I’d say the Burning Man shots, the Canon SD780 vs. Burning Man post. Interesting to see your artistic process.
However as an engineering grad student frantically throwing research together I’d say my fave of the day is the Refreshing Albums of 2010. Its definitely helping my bang out a proceedings paper for SPIE next month.

being a car guy my Favorite post has to be of the series of the Porsche Racing poster collection. it was the first post I saw while I was looking for inspiration for my own work.

Well choosing a single post might be difficult, but Shigeto’s Full Cirle album was amazing. I’m tied between that and the Matthias Heiderich posts.

And stumbling across phantogram was a highlight of my year.

But I think I’ll say Matthias Heiderich. As a student I’ve just started photography recently, and his work has given me plenty of inspiration.

I became fascinated by picodwelling after I read this post. There is something really quite unique and satisfying in my opinion of simplifying one’s life to only have what is really needed, without duplicating items. Steve Sauer’s philosophy of having no wasted space and everything accessible/funcitonal is brilliant. Sauer’s http://www.oixio.com/pico-dwelling/ is also a great website to check out. Thanks for posting!

My favorite post was “Your camera doesn’t matter”. It’s always awesome to see people inspire using the cheapest gear out there. Reminded me of Joe Satriani recording “surfing with the alien” on a super cheap no-name electric guitar because it had the right sound. =)

What I have enjoyed the most – in addition to the looks into your own work, of course – were the posts on the many exotic or far-away spots. I want to someday talk my friends into renting Casa Kimball (likely during the off-season) and the New York loft stair drawers inspired me to build some in my basement.

1. Canon SD780 Vs. Burning Man – awesome photo editing work, well done.

2. Dusty Brown EP + ISO50 Artwork – hooked on Dusty Brown, and love love love the cover art. Can I get a print of that..?

Great competition with fantastic give aways. I would LOVE to have the snowboard as my deck is already way to old and screwed up. Tough question regarding the favorite post though… Well, those tunes by Nueva Forma were pretty amazing, but that iPhone Fashion Shoot was another great post.

Keep it up!

Too many great posts to decide but, I’d say there was one post in particular that impacted/inspired me the most and that was “Top Ten Fonts of 2009″. At that time (early this year) I was really searching for some new typefaces and your list opened my eyes to some that have quickly become favorites of mine.

Quick question: do we have to re-like you on Facebook, or does it count if we have already liked you on Facebook?

Favorite post is a tough decision. I’ve got to say, I love the art, but when it comes down to it, I come for the music. So I appreciate all the playlists.

The post on Nueva Forma has probably had the biggest impact on me this year. What a great resource for finding quality independent musicians! I’ve listened to them over and over.

My favorite post this year has to be the Atari Computer Concepts. As an industrial design student, its always amazing to see concepts done by hand. Sadly, our industry of I.D. is becoming more and more dependent on computer renderings and less on the craft and beauty of a hand render. We all can still sketch well, but past that, people jump to photoshop or rendering models in keyshot. It’s like a breath of fresh air to see the vintage Atari work, as well as the many posts here every day.

It may be a bit of a cop-out, but the ‘Most Refreshing Albums of 2010′ post was has been my favourite in recent days. The Dry Waves collection was amazing as well – love Warm Ghost. But it was really great to see your 2010 albums represent so many artists that I hugely adore. Plus, I found a new obsession in Emeralds!

Caroline says:

Oooh, I really like these prizes :) Anyway, so the post that I remember the best is the one about the 1980s HBO intro ( The Making Of ). I’ve only been a designer since the computer some-what overruled the necessities of hand-created motion graphics. It was pretty inspiring to see the intricate amount of detail and work that went into it.

Sooooo, I pretty much love anything that you put your hands on, but if I have to pick something out of the prizes (and something that I don’t already own….hahaha), it would probably be the ARMADA skis! ARMADA is an amazing company all the way down to it’s roots, by starting the company because the bigger players in the ski industry wouldn’t let ski designers make skis that were built to ride by guys who spend most of their time on the slopes. They only wanted to design skis that would appeal to your average Joe who only spends two weeks of the year skiing. Plus they have always valued a good design aesthetic! I seriously hope I win!

I cant really complain alot, i just like to sit back and relax and enjoy what you have to share. But all in all i really like your best of posts, becuase thats where i think some really interesting materials are presented.

But all in all of my favorite post has been when you shared Nueva Forma, since the first time i clicked that link, i have discovered some great new music that i did not existed before! Hard choice. But one of the post i recall is when you shared the Flying Lotus Ep!

Alex’s Dark side of the lens post. I loved the video, read about it, posted it to a few friends, and it turns out I know Micky (the guy who shot it – a friend of a friend who i met last summer) and he’s now agreed to shoot a video for my band’s next release.

Plus, there’s a shot of the derelict pub round the corner from my parents house where my dad used to be a regular. Which was a lovely surprise to see seeing as most of the video is shot in cornwall, whereas my parents live in Manchester, around 500 miles away and definitely no where near the coast.

This post was a revelation to me and without reading this blog I may never have seen it.

For me, the GAP logo redesign project turned out to be really interesting. As I still didn’t start my studies in art (studying in science but planning on going in infographics or publicity at university), it got me to realize how logos of big trademarks were stamped in my subconscious as most entries just felt wrong to me by not being the original logo.

Of course, the playlists are also one thing I can’t wait for to come out!

Hello Iso50, I follow you religiously. I am constantly inspired by your daily posts of great design and music. You’re one of the biggest reasons I want to be a great designer, because one day I want to be featured on your site. Iso50-I love you. And, my favorite post this year was on How Ink Is Made. It reminded me of how Mr. Rodgers would show videos of how Crayola crayons were made.

thanks for the constant updates. we check out your site everyday and at least one of your playlists is always streaming in our studio…really getting into your posts of your studio and, as always, any pictures that are included when you post new music. it’s amazing how many ideas can come from a single picture cropped just right.
thanks again guys..

I really liked the J.Crew post. Its always nice to see a well know company make an improvement on their brand rather than trying to keep up with trends. I’m not even sure of what J.Crew’s brand was before, nor did I care. But now their direction as a brand is so much clearer and timeless; its become one of my favorite brands.

I’m also a huge fan of Jakub’s music posts. I will listen to anything and everything you post man.

You all make a great team.

I would say that the “Dark Side of the Lens” post was my favorite (the video WAS undoubtedly amazing), but I wanna choose something that showcase content created by one of the member of the site and thus I’ve chosen Alex’s No-Fo-Mo post.

The best part of it being the M83 and Hunter S. Thompson backed “Our Energy Would Simply Prevail” video.

As for the Gap logo, I was shocked to see that they were changing their logo, and was really pleased and inspired by some of the ideas that people came up with on here.

Keep up the good work everyone, you guys are my favorite blog to check on each and every day.

By the way, you should really put the absolutely amazing ‘Analog visions’ graphic on a t-shirt. I would love to own one of those.

Its also great to see where other designers pull their inspiration from and how they utilize it in their work. Very educational and inspirational post. Thanks for sharing everything!

Love all the posts about vintage advertising (porsche, synthesizers, swissair posters, etc)… so great to see what people did before the advent of computer design and world-at-you-fingertips/Google Search type of mentality was so prevalent. That was a time when The Concept still reigned at the head of the creative table and there was enough time actually given to the design process to make interesting, provoking decisions. Now it’s all about cranking work out as fast as possible and, oh, by the way, try to make it look cool/amazing while you’re at it…

I’d have to say I’ve been so thrilled with most posts but as a designer who was influenced so heavily from skateboard art (esp Alva) and a landscape photographer so influenced by the ocean and its many ‘moods’ its a tough choice between ‘Darkside of the Lens ‘ and the ‘Skateboard art’ posts…

But I think the ‘Dark Side of the Lens’ wins for me now.

I’d have to say the making of Designspiration was my favorite post of the year, not because it was a particularly awe inspiring post itself, but because the site it opened me up to is awe inspiring.

As far as more traditional posts go it’s really hard to not pick a large handful of posts, but two stand out: The Dark Side of The Lens, as many have stated, and the largely overlooked Mads Berg Illustration post. Something about his style has really stuck with me for whatever reason; it’s a perfect blend of mathematical precision, whimsical visuals, and straight up class.
