Smallville by Tobias Thomas
In 2003 I remember hearing this mix by Tobias Thomas and it being the first mix to really catch the beauty in melody in house/techno while venturing off into indie electronic, it was super inspiring and probably shaped me and my taste in music from there on. It has this gradual gentle ramp up into the dance music like a friendly tap on the shoulder, such a welcoming collection of tracks too, if you lend this CD to someone that didn’t like house music but liked Erlend Oye then I think you’d have that person asking for more. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED mix to own.

I absolutely love that record. I remember Zilinek handing me this. In fact I listened to it on the way back from Tokyo.
I consider it one of the must listen mixes of the last 9 years. No question.

This is the kind of music that I wish would have magically appeared back in 2003 when I was pondering what music I was missing that I’d eventually find and love.

In the golden days of kompakt the Michael Mayer Immer Mix probably changed my view on all things electronic, still picks me up everytime I listen to it.
Never heard this but will get on it!

Immer 1 (and Ellen Allien’s Flieg Mit Mix on bpitch the year before) was a wake up call to me that electronic was hitting a new turn.

yup, Immer 1 (if anyone gets Immer 2 by mistake, its not as good!), funnily how kompakt have prety much fallen back since then though.
