Santogold: Lights Out
No doubt you’ve been hearing this around lately, but here it is again for those who are missing out. This is Rick Ocasek for 2008, what do you call this, New-New Wave?
Edit: “Hey” mentioned in the comments that this album cover was chosen as “Worst Cover of 2008″ by Pitchfork. I have to admit, when I first saw it all I thought was, “hey, that girl is puking everywhere”. But Santi White (Santogold) comes from an A&R background, she knows the game. If you’re going to make a pop record like this you really have to visually position it as “edgy”, or “indie” to sell it. Otherwise you’re just Ashlee Simpson (who, by the way, Santi White has written songs for).
Anyways, yeah, it’s a bit off, but definitely not the worst thing ever and like Jeremy said, it fits the demo so you can’t really knock it I guess.

it’s crafty and fit’s the album’s demographic. I wouldnt consider it one of the worst designs of 2008

It’s a brilliant, iconic cover imo. Haven’t seen it in the flesh, but need to seek it out. I’m tempted to cover it on Hard Format, but it would depend on whether a) it’s a jewel case, digipak or some other format, b) the rest of the design lives up to the rest of the image, c) the quality of the image itself (would be wonderful if that was real glitter). Will have to see.
