ISO50 Gallery+Tycho Live Tonight in TO.

I made it in to Toronto tonight, pretty easy day of travel. Unfortunately there’s a little bit of rain but I hear it will let up by tomorrow evening. I went over to Function 13 Gallery tonight to get started setting things up, I’ll be hanging all the artwork for the ISO50 show tomorrow.

The gallery show will feature a lot of new work along with some old stuff. I ended up going back and reworking everything, pulling out the text and just leaving the artwork. It was a pretty fun process stripping things down to their core elements, it’s always a nice test to see which images stand on their own without the accompanying type. A couple posters — such as 1971 and Madrone — couldn’t do without the type so I just tried stripping out some other extraneous elements. Going back through some of the older files was pretty surprising, it was interesting to see how much my technique has changed over the years. Some were just a mess, it felt like restoring an old house removing all the heavy handed distressing and randomly placed elements. It was great to see the results, I feel like the core concepts of a lot of the pieces can breathe a lot better now.

I’ve also got some new stuff in store for the live Tycho set; a few new songs, some remixes, and reworked live visuals. It’s been pretty stressful over the past week getting ready for this but it all came together over the past few days so now I’m just excited to get it all out there. Hope to see you out tonight. Also, if you enjoy all the music posted on this blog (which is pretty much all Jakub), then you will enjoy Jakub’s DJ set tonight. He’ll be playing as his DJ alter-ego Aarnio tonight at the show.

Rip it. Wish I could make it but… I’ll be in Las Vegas so there’s a good chance I won’t remember anything this weekend. Take pictures!

Sounds pretty interesting with the re-makes / upgrades of your previous works. Would love to check that out. Damn, I gotta save me some money so I can actually attend some of these awesome events. Thanks for your comment on my thoughts about switching to a darker blog. I’m still not sure if I’m gonna do it. Well, best of luck with the gallery. I see that there are already a lot of people signed up to the event via Facebook. Nice :)

Hey – good luck with the shows in Toronto. Was hoping to make it over in time but won’t make it until mid next week. I’ll make sure I drop into Function13 to check out your works there – it’s a great space..

Hey Scott,
A friend of mine and I will be making our way to the T. tonight. Can’t wait to experience my first Tycho show.
Welcome to the Great White North!

Hey Scott,
I was planning on coming but don’t think I’m going to be able to make it – are there any plans to leave any of those Analog Visions posters at the gallery? I’d reeeeeeeally like one.
Have a great show!
Matt

I dig this post…I can definitely relate on the going back and stripping things out. I does sort of seem like your work has experienced a sea change—specifically with the stressing, texture and typography. Everything seems to have a more subtle/refined look…the signature feel is still there though!

Well, I was excited about tonight… apparently the show is already sold out. Guess I didn’t realize how popular you are in Toronto!
Oh well, maybe next time.

Hi Scott,
Can you please post some nice photos of this event (people like me staying back in Greece wont be able to enjoy this goodness happening) and previews of your re-worked pieces? I’m so curious to see. I can’t wait actually. The best case would be you to publish them as extras/exclusives (iso50 studio pieces in limited edition) on the iso50 shop. I am sure many other fans besides me will be interested.

By the way, as for the re-work process generally. That’s so true. I did that recently. Went back to numerous work pieces of mine from back in uni or from back when I was 16 and they are so funny. Especially technique-wise. To be honest I still feel like a naked animal regarding design techniques but I am taking a deep breath being still on my 21st year of age, looking on my work, how it can be improved, what I like, what I want to do and knowing I am always up and thirsty for more makes me start feeling some other animal inside me, the design one ;-p

Have a blast tonight!
Helena x

Great shows at Function 13 and Nocturne last night! It makes me glad that I have a user group meeting at Function 13 every month, and I saw the flyer for it. I’ve been familiar with Scott/Tycho’s work for quite a while now, so I knew it was going to be a good time. Hope you come back to TO again soon, and I’m looking forward to more art/music in the future! Cheers…

Awesome just awesome! I drove up from buffalo for the show, my friend and I reserved a choice spot in the front row and once you played those first couple notes and the visuals started i knew i had made a great decision! Your music inspires me in so many different ways whether it’s with my own ambient sound experiments, or living my life in the moment. Thank you Scott, and the new stuff is unbelievable =]
